Iris Oriental
Eau de Toilette
by Parfumerie Generale

The Scoop
Warm, woody and resinous, Iris Oriental (formerly called Iris Taïzo) is more than it name implies. Iris, yes, but this fragrance is built around the peripheral ingredients rather than the star floral in the name. Iris on its own is a thing of beauty; a scent that isn’t blossomy, nor tropical, nor ‘warm.’ In Iris Oriental, the flower’s cool, earthy depths are wrapped lovingly in Guatemalan cardamom, incensey wood and silky resins, warmed with a sweet fig-tree honey and a whisper of vanilla. The result is like opening a fragrant, old wooden box lined with rich, fragrant velvet…and in its soft depths lay two deep blue iris petals. You’ve never smelled an iris fragrance like this…and you probably won’t again. Another unique and breathtakingly lovely perfume from PG.

I am not a huge fan of florals, but Iris Taizo (Oriental) is one of the few that I can love. It's floral with a focused Iris note amidst a refined spicy incense accord to carry it with complexity and decisiveness, grounded by a smooth warm woods and vanilla base. It is indeed on the powdery side, but it's oriental vanilla elements keep this from being wimpy or old lady. This is for a woman who knows what she wants and embraces the power of being feminine. Refreshingly uplifting and uncommon. Although leaning towards the unisex side of feminine, as a guy, I won't wear this one. It's for her only.

Oh my. A lovely, mildly sweet spicy iris, with a tiny - but ever so important - hint of something animalic. I am not a big iris fan; normally I find it either too cold or too powdery - but this stuff is addictive. It's nothing like Iris Silver Mist, or Iris Nobile, or...well, anything. I'm not even sure if it's all that irisy. But I am sure that it is seriously delicious and soothing. Great for day and night. Great in warm, humid weather (that transforms it to triple s: sexy, sensuous, sultry). Perfect sillage too: definitely noticeable, but not from across the room. And ater 6 hours it is still noticeable on my skin. This is a scent for women who might not like iris all that much, but are looking for something that is sexy yet soothing, and spicy sweet yet not gourmand. Sample first, and give it a few tries. It didn't do anything for me at first, then I kinda liked it, and then I developed a craving for it. (What do they put in that stuf?!) Anyway, needless to say, my full bottle has already arrived. :-)

Lovely? Stunning? Unique? Huh? Bland, sweet, boring yes. I recently sampled Mitsouko and can only imagine what it's creator would say if he smelled this. "Sacre bleu, certainement zeez eez not yet fineeeshed, non? Where is the meeestery? Zee other scents zat must, but of course be part of a great fragrance!" I think it's entirely possible that I myself have become vintage!

LOVE IT! it is clean and unique, and so far PG is the BEST line I have tried! all of the fragrances, are PRIMO, and dont have that common scent trail, that so many have, that claim to be 'different' un crime exotic, still the best,if you like warm, spicey scents:)

Soft iris meets spice and sweet incense - it changes throughout the day on me but never fails to please.

The cardamon, wood, honey, resins, vanilla make a very pleasant woody warm but light spice. Very similar to Old Spice - the new formula - and I do like Old Spice. The iris adds lift, but apart from the name of this fragrance, this is not an iris scent. The iris is used as a blending note as it is in so many fragrances but its definitely not the center of attention. I was expecting an ethereal and smoky iris as in L' homme Coeur(Divine), or Iris Poudre (Frederic Malle) or Iris Silver Mist (Serge Lutens). A nice spice, but not that special.

This is lovely, and I would like to make it clear that I am NOT an iris fan, but still I find this to be lovely. Powdery, slightly sweet, fragrant iris, bordered by woods. Luckyscent provided a very well done and accurate description, and while I am not moved to buy a bottle, I would love to smell this on anyone.

This is gorgeous! When I think of iris-based scents, I think of cool, detached compositions that (unfortunately) sometimes smell like carrots. Not this! Iris Taizo is a beautiful, spicy and honeyed iris-woods-cardamom blend that's neither too sweet, too dry nor too predictable. I have finally found an iris I can wear.

This is an utterly wonderful, bold interpretation of Iris...completely the opposite end of the spectrum from something like Hermes Hiris which, to me, smells like Aspirin tastes. This is very well described by Luckyscent...a woody frame, spicy without being overtly pomander like, sort of a cool spice (cardamom) and then there's this great powdery iris refrain, a special center to the fragrance that really allows for a breath of fresh air...stopping it from going down that close hot sticky spicy route that "spicy" perfumes tend to adhere to, unfortunately. This is likely to be a future purchase.

From a man's point of view, this is a real beauty - it could easily be worn by a man as well as a lady. This is perhaps the most wearable of any iris scent I've ever tried, which includes the "big names" - Serge Lutens, The Different Company and some others. If Pierre Guillaume continues making scents like this, he will re-invent the industry!

I adore this scent! I found other iris scents to be too ethereal, feathery, powdery and cold. Iris Taizo has a spicy honey and cardamom opening that makes me swoon! Then the resinous iris arrives and melts into a soft woody, slightly vanilla base. There is contrast but it all fits together. The woodiness never over powers, just gives the airy iris something warm to rest on in this perfectly balanced relationship. This is a potent scent and lasts all day for me. FBW? You betcha!
