Genie de Bois
Eau de Parfum
by Keiko Mecheri

The Scoop
This is not an old-fashioned powdery violet by any means, this kitten's got claws! As the name hints, this woods- based scent uses cedar and other exotic woods to impart an unusual base on which lies violet. A very green violet, that is, which gradually sweetens and softens as the fragrance evolves on your skin. Genie des Bois falls somewhere between a feathered-slipper wearing, gold cigarette holder-wielding, old-school movie star and a very naughty bacchanalian romp in a forest blanketed with wild violets. We think you’ll love it, dahling. Kiss kiss.

Mmm. This is nice. Cedar scares me as a note- can make me sneeze incessantly. This is a very well rounded, very ladylike and feminine scent of dark violets and a grounding of cedar-like resin to cut the sweetness. This is very office safe and something I would wear in the summer for it's very pretty nature.

I've never been one for floral scents of any kind, prefering spice, wood, and earthy amber based scents. However, I was intrigued by the description of this fragrance and bought a sample just to try. WOW! This is my kind of floral, with a subtle lovely violet and a lush woods and spice that I adore. My husband and daughter both love this one on me too. My only complaint, and the only reason this gets a 4 insted of a 5 is that it doesn't last long on my skin.

This is 'Skinny dip' by lush! unfortunately, personally, the smell makes me feel nauseous. Anyone who DOES love SD should try this. It's a very creamy violet on me.

Mmmmm! This is what I'd hoped CdG Incense - Kyoto and CdG Sherbert – Cinnamon would be, but aren’t! It’s got a beautiful, mystical, woody incense smell, that is light like cinnamon, but without the sharpness, and really quite sweet. To compare with the cedar scents of which I'm fond, it’s not as dry or hard as Feminite du Bois, or as verging-on-pudding-sickly sweet as Dolce Vita. This is the woody incense scent for me! It’s very wearable, and not outrageously priced. NB: If you're looking for a powdery or green violet scent, this isn't it. BUT... I’m looking forward to owning this light, zingingly sweet, cedar fragrance.

This one is lovely. Not candy sweet, but more like a lightly sweetened Iris Silver Mist, minus the celery. With a bit of violet. Sorry Serge. This one has you beat.

It started off warm and spicy...but now all I get is the "candy necklace" smell which I just don't like. Reminds me of being in a Lush store and of some Paul Mitchell hair products. The "candy" smell just drives me crazy. Glad I sampled first! Thank you Luckyscent.

This is a fantastic spring/summer scent. It starts out sharp and green but dries to a soft, seductive almost spicy powder. Unassumingly unique.

On further reflection, I completely love this. It has an earthy quality without the yuckiness of patchouli. My second fave KM scent.

I'm on the fence about this one. It smelled like a vanilla-tinged version of Feminite Du Bois by Shiseido, which I've always liked, but the floral was on the verge of being too sweet & a little plastic-y. The wood saved it, though, and it's definitely a distinctive fragrance.

Wasn't sure I liked this one at first, but have found myself gravitating to it when I'm feeling edgy and want to wrap myself in something warm and comforting. Yummy spice and cedar, not so much violet for me in the drydown. Wonderful, even so. Might have to spring for the full bottle.

Cedar and Spice and everything nice...I must be lucky, because everything that should come out of this scent comes out for me...YAY.

I keep trying violet fragrances to no avail. I love the idea of violets (and I love violet candy/gum). It just doesn't want to work on me. This is a lovely green violet with cedarwood as described. It just didn't last at all on me. I layered with a little patchouli which seemed to help. If you're a violet fan though, give it a try.

So far, this one is enjoyable and exotic, and on further reflection may earn a higher rating.

I've gotten more compliments on this fragrance than any other I've ever worn - including "You smell absolutely gorgeous!" from complete strangers. Vaguely exotic, spicy and soft all at the same time. LOVE THIS!

This did not smell good to me at all. I smelled no violets or any florals at all. There was a moment when I thought it might evolve into something nice, but no, it remained unpleasant.

It came as a sample with another order. Flipped off the top and wow! Exactly what I am looking for. I keep coming back for more (sniffs). On the must-have list.

The violet disappears VERY fast, then it becomes a sweet almost cinnamon-like cedar/sandlewood scent.NO FLORALS>

My experience with this fragrance is so different... on me it's ever-so-soft (odd, since most scents turn sharpish on me), dry, woodsy-wonderful and comforting. The violet is barely there, but a lovely soft base of sandalwood is what I smell the most. I get almost no cedar or spice. This one stays close to the skin. I adore this.

An un-shy violet blooming in an exotic wood. It's a gorgeous, complex, moody fragrance that unfortunately yields its tang too quickly--it faded fast on me, alas

The violet is beautifully balanced by the woody notes, and the scent has a wonderfully spicy power that makes me want to sniff myself constantly. Not sweet and sickening as many other violets, but still... aah, it smells like a spicey spongecake just out of the oven. Delicious!

Lovely soft and spicy scent. The violet in the opening does have some bite, but the drydown is soft, spicy, woody, and warm. Beautiful scent!

This smells a lot like Shiseido's Feminite Du Bois, must be the cedar. That scent is very strongly incense like, this is a little lighter. I only have the sample of Genie de Bois but will be buying the bottle.

I really really wanted to like this scent-- I love violets and precious woods, especially when they are not-so-sweet. I am a *huge* fan of Hiris and Ormonde Jayne Ormonde, for instance, both of which are violets with a "sting," so to speak... Unfortunately I did not love this perfume at all.
