We are likely to fall for any perfume that makes us quietly hum Serge Gainsbourg’s song in our rather imperfect French (and there aren’t nearly enough of those!). And, when the perfume is as stunning as Putain des Palaces-- well, what can we say? We are madly in love! I would exclusively wear Patchouli scents if my husband didn't hate them so much-they seem to be,in general, man repellant. So I set out to find a scent that would please the both of us and have found it in Putain des Palaces. It is extremely sexy and ...not to be vulgar here...can only be described as the best smelling p***y in the world. 'Nuff said.

My love affair with fragrance arose from a miniature scents kit my mother had as a young woman in the 70's. Out of all the tiny vials of rare ingredients, the pure ambergris was my absolute favorite. An occasional dab on my wrist served as a small pilfered luxury. After ordering a few full sized bottles, I also requested that this concoction be sent to me as a sample. Uncorking the stopper was like being transported back to my childhood. The primal oceanic brine of ambergris enlivened by a shimmering floral bouquet. Underscoring this is something that can only be likened to an unexpected glace of cleavage. Rounded. Soft. Thrilling. I'll revel in tiny doses from the sample--then onto the adult indulgence of a full bottle....

I decided to let my hubby choose a perfume for me to wear one evening. After smelling 4 different vials, his reaction was "oh definately that one!" I showed him the name "putain des palaces" and we both had a good laugh. Top notes on my skin smell like a freshly opened bag of red licorice nibs. As it develops, it starts to smell like rubber fetishwear...but just peeks of it. A very unusual leather note but I loved it. Very subtle. The drydown went sweet like cotton candy but not sickly sweet - like a carnival happening a street away.

This is a naughty girl that needs to be spanked for being gorgeously sexy. It rides on the rim of being raunchy while refined at the same time but after a while reins itself back in and stays refined and remains a slightly dirty musk. Such a well blended mix. I absolutely adore this fragrance, and it is definitely FB worthy. I don't think I needed to sample this beforehand; I could've bought this unsniffed---it's that good. Be prepared to be up to no good with this one.

I have to admit that it was the reviewer that described this as, "ol' French ho, fo' sho'" that inspired me to try this perfume. And there's no doubt about it, there is a certain "ol' French ho'" aspect about this perfume, but that French ho is one of the great courtesans. She is powdered, bewigged, dressed in silks and her dancing slippers are of new leather. She is radiant. She's drunk on champagne that was specially ordered for her and she's ready to party- that's Putain des Palaces. The woman wearing this: she's not the queen at the party, but she's going home with the king and he'll let her make some minor foreign policy changes if she's into that kind of thing (it was that kind of night). This starts with a very buttoned-down lipstick rose-violet that quickly leads into an incredibly soft, sexy leather. The smell- it's a Chanel lipstick that's melted into the lining of a Birkin; it's the smell of inside of the Louboutin stilleto that the woman you love has been wearing; its the perfume of the woman you love, but can't bring yourself to admit that you do. It's beautiful. Putain des Palaces is a scent for the man-killer, but she must be the revolutionary kind. I imagine Charlotte Chorday wore this when she strangled Marat.

I received this as a sample and it started nice and "orange-y" then after about an hour it was too heavy and musky. The orange smell was gone and the odor left behind was something like a hot, sweaty ox. Not for me.

I had to have a full bottle of this. It reminds me of a powdered wig, which has acquired the head sweat of its wearer. It's not overly powdery though, because it is tempered with salty notes. I find this fragrance very intriguing, noble, comforting, and sexy. I wear this during the day at work, as its sillage is mild and light. I don't get any animalic notes from this. The lasting power is about three hours.

Whoa, full-frontal baby powder top note, old French ho fo' sho'. Then it dries down. It becomes Chanel #5 on a three-day bender, lipstick smeared, slip showing, broken heel, and the beginnings of a epic hangover. There's a nice dark heart to this that's worth waiting for.

Lyrical, feminine and sweet, but yes, it has an unfortunate older woman connotation because of the violet rose mix. That said, I've been inhaling it repeatedly ever since I put a few drops on my arm. The dry down gets sexier with a little spicy ginger and yes a hint of leather, which on me was very brief. I don't get any animalic. Blended well, long lasting.

The first 20 mins. of the opening notes were OK( like a high end powder), BUT THEN........ OMG out came the slightly naughty leather/ rose/ animal notes. Received many compliments. Yes, perfect for the boudoir-- a cleavage scent!

I was hesitant to try this at first but after ordering a sample, I fell in love. It starts of as sweet, but not cloying and dries down to a musky, amber-ish scent that makes me feel like Audrey Hepburn. It's not too strong, though the staying power could have lasted longer. I wish they could do a smaller refillable bottle so I can carry it everywhere with me. After years of finding the perfect scent, I think I have found mine.

bought this unsniffed because i liked the sound of it. i literally cannot stop smelling my arm. i thought it would probably just be a bit soapy floral but its so much more than that powdery, animalistic, floral with a hint of leather and sex. beautiful.

I found this very alcohol-hot going on, with rose & violet over amber and a nice twang of mandarin. It dried down to mostly amber with a slight hint of powdery, violet/vanilla leather. Finally it was just too sweet for me, and I don’t need another amber.

On a recent visit to LA, I stopped in the Scent Bar store. I was in heaven. Then the store attendant suggest I try Putain des Palaces. At first I thought it smelled old fashioned and was sure I wouldn't like it. However, the dry down is hot and sexy. I always get compliments on this perfume. Sexy and dirty - I think you'll love it.

OK I wrote thereview below and I have t say that it stinks only for the first 20 minutes or so and then the fragrance is beautiful. It shocked me. I did not realize that the lovely smell that I was smelling was this fragrance on my arm. So I give this fragrance a 4. I had to take off a point for the smelly opening.

Oh my. I normally hate things with rose, violet and leather, but I tried this anyway. I was in love with it as soon as I uncorked the tester. On me, it smells like the inside of an exotic import store -- spicy floral incense and leather. Underneath is a a touch is dirty musk, but it's very, very subtle and restrained. Gorgeous.

Rule #1: NEVER buy a fragrance unsniffed. Rule #2: ALWAYS test on skin. Rule #3: Rules 1 and 2 may be completely ignored in the case of Putain des Palaces. I bought this unsniffed, and I am in LOVE. The opening is powdery rose-violet, a little old fashioned, but not old lady. Then a hint of spice kicks in, but the fragrance is never overtly spicy. The drydown is a combo of smooth leather and animalic musk, all sex and naughty gorgeousness! I can't stop sniffing my wrist! A definite must-try.

I am a HUGE fan of this scent, but I think it's a good test for a "nose". I've worn this and about 60% of people who smell it say I smell like "pretty flowers". The other 40% smell what I love about this scent: an underlying current of pure sex. It's just a trace... a mysterious lingering impression of long luxurious nights wrapped in expensive sheets.. but it's enough to make this fragrance stand apart from the rest of the (hit or miss) range. I'm also convinced that the other 60% who smelled "pretty flowers" unconsciously smelled the "sex" as well... I get so much male attention when I wear this! Love it.
