The Scoop
In 1947, nashi seeds dating back to Japan's Yayoi period were unearthed in the ancient ruins of Toro in the Shizuoka prefecture. anti recreates this meditative fragrance, blending the crispness of nashi pear with the earthy potency of hinoki wood, refreshed by the dewy drip-drop of rain on rice paddies. Hinoki opens with woody, crisp clarity, its ancient presence immediately grounding the composition in time and place. Nashi pear arrives with fresh, juicy sweetness that contradicts the wood's earthiness, while black pepper adds subtle spice and warmth. This is the scent of archaeological awakening, of seeds preserved in ash becoming living memory.
Iris butter blooms at the heart with delicate, buttery softness, joined by ambrette and Somalia incense that add contemplative depth and a whispered animalic quality. Moss, musk, earth, and rice bran absolute settle into the base, creating an authentically earthy foundation that smells of ancient soil and the daily rituals of a vanished civilization. Reinvented by perfumer Karine Vinchon-Spehner, Nashi Toro is meditation captured in fragrance, a moment of stillness where past and present converge like rain falling on rice paddies that have grown for millennia.
