Some ingredients deserve to be presented without too much superficial adornment, and Rose Centifolia, the astonishingly fragrant flower that has held a central position in European perfumery for centuries, is certainly as deserving as they come. Which isn't to say that Rose Hubris, Ex Nihilo's luscious, hedonistic tribute to rose, doesn't have a trick or two up its sleeve: with wonderful fruity, citrus and spicy accents, Rose Hubris presents us with a portrait of a flower in full bloom, from soil to stem to bud.
Rose Hubris opens with a burst of mouthwatering fruity lychee, with just a touch of sweet, maple-inflected fenugreek. In the heart, the rose shines brightly, sumptuously floral with just the right amount of resinous labdanum for depth and balance, while a gloriously deep base of oakmoss and earthy patchouli takes us deep into the roots of this magical flower. Classic yet contemporary, naturalistic yet utterly exhilarating, Rose Hubris is best described in a single word: gorgeous.
