Today, I want to talk about Vanilla Cake by Montale. This fragrance, I'm going to say, is Gourmand with a capital G. Gourmands are those fragrances that smell really yummy. They tend to be on the sweeter side, kind of cupcakes, vanillas, caramels, pralines. These things make up the Gourmand family of perfumes. This one is sweet and creamy, milky, it's delicious.
The brand Montale is really known for statement fragrances. I think all of their fragrances are super recognizable. They last for a long time on your skin and they really project. But I think in the past, we associate this house more with ouds. They really excelled at these wonderful Orientals, these more exotic oud, rose, saffron kind of blends. Vanilla Cake is not like that at all, but it is definitely a statement fragrance. I guess Montale is just really good at statement fragrances.
I'm going to list off some of the notes that make up this fragrance: Almond powder, milky mousse, meringue, vanilla, buttercream. I mean, it sounds so delicious. It sounds like I'm reading a dessert menu. And when you smell it, it smells like what you expect. Lately, there have been more of these milky, creamy fragrances coming out. This is definitely in that category. It's certainly gourmand with a capital G.
It doesn't really say anything about fruit so much, but I detect the sweetness that is more than just the creamy, yummy cake and dairy sweetness. There's also maybe like a little bit of a strawberry shortcake thing happening here. When you get it on your skin, just imagine an ultra creamy, creamy vanilla, almost buttery vanilla if you will. It stays that way on your skin, great to layer with other things or if you just want to give yourself this comforting, warm, come hither kind of creamy yumminess, then this is the way to go.
