Lonestar Memories

Beautiful. Wear it and you will love yourself more. It's a gorgeous scent. It's smoky and green, yes, like a campfire in a deep forest. It seems to be white flowers too, deep inside. It wears close to the body and is rich, evocative. Comforting and sexy.

As big as Texas (and taking nearly as long to make one’s way through), Lonestar Memories opens with a boot-scootin’ cartoon -- big barbeque, big dry sage-and-cedar vistas, big birch tar, big bigness. But this is Tauer, so give it some time to stop trying to prove things. When it calms down a bit, there are are some amazing notes of carrot seed (!), tonka, and jasmine on hand to turn the cartoon into a more fully realized image. It’s certainly a leather, though mainly because the other notes suggest that of course there’s leather in the picture; what I actually perceived was mesquite smoke and well-weathered oilskins. This one will grow on you.

This is okay. It's not bad; it's just not for me. It smells of cinnamon, not cassia, cinnamon; cheap bubblegum; and a barbecue in fall. It smells really good, but I would want this as a home scent not a fragrance. Also, the performance is wonderful for eau de toilette.

Kind of crazy at first: bubblegum and camphor, almost. But soon it blooms into deeper imagery, like sweet saddle leather and warm dusty wooden sidewalks and old-fashioned root beer or sarsaparilla (do I even know what that tastes like, honestly? Well, this is like my idea of it, at least), and even though patchouli's not in the notes there's something suggestive of patchouli at base. Tenacious and evocative. One of those scents I'm liking better after a couple different samplings.

it is madness in most sophisticated possible way. If your review comes after 5 minutes of your encounter with Lonestar Memories ,then you missed the experience…. perhaps is not everybody like truffle, caviar, etc ..

As a Texan, I definitely find this scent intriguing, especially the scent of the birch tar which reminds me of a hot Texas summer. It's a bit too masculine for my taste but definitely evokes memories of the Lone Star state. As Tauer perfumes go, I prefer Lys du Desert, then L'Air du Desert Marocain.

I loved Incense rose, but this is something completely different. If you like the smell of tar, oil and smoke and don't mind being mistaken for a shipper, this is the scent for you. Probably the most raw masculine thing I've come across, it almost comes with it's own beard. For a woman of 27, that's a bit rough to handle, but on the right man (think Hugh Jackman in Australia) it might be stunning.

Just got a sample of this, and I have to say I'm not impressed. To me, it truly smells like stetson original. Something I would definitely not recommend to anyone under the age of 40.

I'm going to start this review off by mentioning that this is a strong scent. VERY POTENT. I dabbed some onto my wrist (just one), and as I type this, I can smell it wafting up from the keyboard. When you apply this, I highly suggest that you put a little on, wait 5 minutes, than decide whether to put more on, as this scent can become very overpowering very easily. Anyways as for the scent itself, I love it. It's very unique and refreshing considering a majority of perfumes (for both sexes) have a "fresh" kind of scent. Lonestar Memories is as far from fresh as you can get. As an earlier reviewer mentioned, the smoky smell is reminiscent of an electronics class (specifically solder smoke), however unlike him I appreciate this fact. It also really does smell a lot like older car's upholstery (think 60's), though in a more complex fashion. The scent has great contrast; on one hand it's harsh smelling, but it's also has a slight (though very detectable) sweet note. Just one. It's simple, yet complex at the same time. After applying even a tiny bit you may be intimidated by it, as it starts off a little too harsh, though it eventually settles into a balance. I love this cologne, however it is very daring. Very bold. When you smell it (connoisseur or not), you will picture a mechanic or a hardware salesman, and if the wearer does not fit this image, the disparity can ruin it. I'm not entirely sure I myself could pull this one off, but if you're a very masculine kind of guy, or you work at a car dealership or some hardware related job and would like to "theme" your colognes, this one is definitely for you. It's a real beauty that unfortunately seems to be above most "normal" men. However, I can't give this any less than 5 stars, as whether or not I can wear it is not the point. The point is that this smells like memories of the 60's in the bottle (without being an old man scent), and I love it.

I can't help it: Lonestar Memories absolutely reminds me of the air-exhaust of a laundromat- which I love, so I might buy a bottle.

I wanted so much to like this. I almost wonder if I got the right sample. I got no real smoke from this at all. On me it smelled just like one of those shops that sells silver jewelry, incense, and tarot cards. Not a bit of leather either. It didn't evolve at all on me and within 2 hours it was gone.

This is one of my all time favorite scents. I'm not a big leather or smoke fan generally, but this fragrance is more than it's "leather" categorization suggests. Smelled right off the sprayer this does indeed smell almost petrochemical. But you have to spray it on skin to experience what this is all about. The jasmine and tonka join the birchtar to create an amazing warm wave that comes at you softly throughout the day. It's dryness is not sweet, but is softened by the supporting characters. Tough but gentle. A big compliment getter too.

This is a great unisex. I took a liking to this immediately. Like L'ADM, but whereas L'ADM is "effervescent," LM is heavier and more leathery, definitely. Andy sure knows how to make his way to my pocket, LOL :)

I really CANNOT get passed the opening of this, which reminds me of the bathroom in my aunts old house. No, not appealing. Yuck.

Hmmmph - this one smells like my electronics class - lots of burning plastic and soldering irons. It's unique - that's for sure, but the amber drydown is almost metallic, and that gave me a headache. I think this metallic amber is why I cannot wear this. My skin amplfies it and blocks the more subtle coffee accord. I wanted to like this so much as I treasure woodsy fire-side like scents. Oh well, there's always some of Tauer's other stuff. Don't let Lonestar Memories be your only impression of Andy Tauer. He is quite talented and I'm sure that you'll find at least one of his that you love such as Le Maroc Pour Elle or L'Air du Desert Marocain. The amber in these is much less metallic and more incense-like.

Andy, please bring back the old bottles. I am down to my last two, and am not looking forward to having to break-open one of these blue monstrosities in order to re-fill an old style bottle. I am not sure if I can even bring myself to buy one. Hatefull looking things. This may be the end of our relationship. are you listening...

This stuff is haunting and addictive. Yes, there is definitely the smoke. But it is the smoke of a deeply dry floral wood. I've never smelled this wood in real life, but please show me where I can get some. I'm actually not a fan of "smokey" scents as such...this is the only one I own. But the total experience is much more than smoke. It is deep and soulful and expansive. It doesn't choke and doesn't smell like BBQ'd meat. It goes floral and lightly resinous and woody mixed with the fresh air of a rugged outdoors. The drydown lingers and calms for hours. This has become one of my favorites.

Another disappointment. I don't know why, but this guy is so overrated.

I absolutely adore leather scents and own several, but I could not get past the smoky "barbecue charcoal" topnotes on this.

This is a very dark birch tar leather upon first application. As it wears it becomes progressively sweeter and softer until by drydown it is a sweet powdery leather scent. Always very masculine in tone. It is significant to me that the fragrance profile has changed from the time it was introduced. When it first came out it stayed in the dark birch tar leather stage much longer than it does now. When the bottle was changed a year ago or so, I believe the formula was also "sweetened" up a bit to make it more palatable. I think the box design and name cheapens the fragrance image a bit, but the maker is from Switzerland and it would be difficult for someone over there to predict the psychology of marketing imagery on the minds of people halfway around the world. But, it is not really offensive - just childish. I like the fragrance though.
