Just got a sample of this, and I have to say I'm not impressed. To me, it truly smells like stetson original. Something I would definitely not recommend to anyone under the age of 40.

I'm going to start this review off by mentioning that this is a strong scent. VERY POTENT. I dabbed some onto my wrist (just one), and as I type this, I can smell it wafting up from the keyboard. When you apply this, I highly suggest that you put a little on, wait 5 minutes, than decide whether to put more on, as this scent can become very overpowering very easily. Anyways as for the scent itself, I love it. It's very unique and refreshing considering a majority of perfumes (for both sexes) have a "fresh" kind of scent. Lonestar Memories is as far from fresh as you can get. As an earlier reviewer mentioned, the smoky smell is reminiscent of an electronics class (specifically solder smoke), however unlike him I appreciate this fact. It also really does smell a lot like older car's upholstery (think 60's), though in a more complex fashion. The scent has great contrast; on one hand it's harsh smelling, but it's also has a slight (though very detectable) sweet note. Just one. It's simple, yet complex at the same time. After applying even a tiny bit you may be intimidated by it, as it starts off a little too harsh, though it eventually settles into a balance. I love this cologne, however it is very daring. Very bold. When you smell it (connoisseur or not), you will picture a mechanic or a hardware salesman, and if the wearer does not fit this image, the disparity can ruin it. I'm not entirely sure I myself could pull this one off, but if you're a very masculine kind of guy, or you work at a car dealership or some hardware related job and would like to "theme" your colognes, this one is definitely for you. It's a real beauty that unfortunately seems to be above most "normal" men. However, I can't give this any less than 5 stars, as whether or not I can wear it is not the point. The point is that this smells like memories of the 60's in the bottle (without being an old man scent), and I love it.

I wanted so much to like this. I almost wonder if I got the right sample. I got no real smoke from this at all. On me it smelled just like one of those shops that sells silver jewelry, incense, and tarot cards. Not a bit of leather either. It didn't evolve at all on me and within 2 hours it was gone.

This is one of my all time favorite scents. I'm not a big leather or smoke fan generally, but this fragrance is more than it's "leather" categorization suggests. Smelled right off the sprayer this does indeed smell almost petrochemical. But you have to spray it on skin to experience what this is all about. The jasmine and tonka join the birchtar to create an amazing warm wave that comes at you softly throughout the day. It's dryness is not sweet, but is softened by the supporting characters. Tough but gentle. A big compliment getter too.

This is a great unisex. I took a liking to this immediately. Like L'ADM, but whereas L'ADM is "effervescent," LM is heavier and more leathery, definitely. Andy sure knows how to make his way to my pocket, LOL :)

Hmmmph - this one smells like my electronics class - lots of burning plastic and soldering irons. It's unique - that's for sure, but the amber drydown is almost metallic, and that gave me a headache. I think this metallic amber is why I cannot wear this. My skin amplfies it and blocks the more subtle coffee accord. I wanted to like this so much as I treasure woodsy fire-side like scents. Oh well, there's always some of Tauer's other stuff. Don't let Lonestar Memories be your only impression of Andy Tauer. He is quite talented and I'm sure that you'll find at least one of his that you love such as Le Maroc Pour Elle or L'Air du Desert Marocain. The amber in these is much less metallic and more incense-like.

Andy, please bring back the old bottles. I am down to my last two, and am not looking forward to having to break-open one of these blue monstrosities in order to re-fill an old style bottle. This stuff is haunting and addictive. Yes, there is definitely the smoke. But it is the smoke of a deeply dry floral wood. I've never smelled this wood in real life, but please show me where I can get some. I'm actually not a fan of "smokey" scents as such...this is the only one I own. But the total experience is much more than smoke. It is deep and soulful and expansive. It doesn't choke and doesn't smell like BBQ'd meat. It goes floral and lightly resinous and woody mixed with the fresh air of a rugged outdoors. The drydown lingers and calms for hours. This has become one of my favorites.

This is a very dark birch tar leather upon first application. As it wears it becomes progressively sweeter and softer until by drydown it is a sweet powdery leather scent. Always very masculine in tone. It is significant to me that the fragrance profile has changed from the time it was introduced. When it first came out it stayed in the dark birch tar leather stage much longer than it does now. When the bottle was changed a year ago or so, I believe the formula was also "sweetened" up a bit to make it more palatable. I think the box design and name cheapens the fragrance image a bit, but the maker is from Switzerland and it would be difficult for someone over there to predict the psychology of marketing imagery on the minds of people halfway around the world. But, it is not really offensive - just childish. I like the fragrance though.

I'm in the process of trying samples of all the Tauer perfumes. Air of the Desert is my favorite of course, but this one was next in line - until i read it was for men, I wouldn't have guessed as it didn't smell overly masculine. Like all of Tauer's perfumes, it's supremely different and interesting. So many notes come through that it's hard to pinpoint which one hits you the most but 1 -- it's strong and definitive and 2 - it is delicious smelling. As with my love of Chergui, I found myself sniffing my wrists all day and I could still smell it hours later - I'm intrigued enough to buy a bottle. Not sure it will replace my Air of the Moroccan desert, but just a lovely, deep and complex combo that you should try.

I really love this perfume, I want to buy a bottle. I also really love L'air du Desert Marocain. However, L'air du Desert Marocain lasts allllllll day long, Lonestar lasts what seems considerably shorter.

Stunning. All the notes in this remain from start to finish, they simply trade places. Starts out with strong birch tar and leather with a beautiful floral/spice background thats simply gorgeous. I also pick up tarragon. This is a strong fragrance that lasts a good 12 hours on my skin but for some reason has zero sillage. Seriously I can't smell it at all unless I put my wrist right to my nose. For that reason I won't be buying but it is truly gorgeous and try it, maybe it will project more on you.

Texan likey this fragrance! It statrts out very smokey, with a tarry/creosote quality. That's definitely a rural Texas olfactive note! The jasmin, coffee and whiskey notes are quite subtle. In later stages, a wonderfully sweet blend of sarsaparilla (what some have called the "root beer" note), amber and incense emerge. Many women have said they LOVE this one on their man... It's masculine... Big, expansive, just sweet enough with a little rough edge to it. Highly recommended for smoke/incense/campfire lovers.

The amber and the smoke is an olafactory of the Titans. I saw someone refer to this scent as a cowboy fixing his car in the hot desert. How true this thought is! The scent is pungent and brassy, very unique. I cannot wear it but on it's own, but Lonestar Memories is an creative look into the life of someone like the Marleboro man.

At first, Lonestar Memories is intriguing - all smoke and leather, nice and dark. After an hour, however, it becomes root beer on my skin. Looses the leather, the smoke and the darkness. Low sillage, wussy drydown.

Lonestar Memories, well I’ll be hornswoggled. If that ain’t a smell to rustle up some memories in an old timer like me. Faberge’s West, did I hear someone say? Why yes,…I can see that tall brown bottle clear as a Texas prairie dog. An’ they tell me this new un’s made by some son of a gun in Switzerland, or some such place. Now if that ain’t the darndest thing.

Those who remember Faberge's West for men will feel instantly at home here. The 1970's variant of Brut was very distinctive, almost suggesting the scent of beans over a campfire. Tauer captures the same atmosphere with a sweeter, more refined, altogether more civilised composition, more the Sheriff than the Outlaw. Wonderfully balsamic with hints of birch tar, it probably gets at least as close to the real wild west as the cowboy films.

This is amazing. It is very, very smokey in the beginning, but then dries down to a sweet, resinous, leather/hay/coffee aroma. It's similar to L'air du Desert Marocain in the drydown, actually. Terrific for men and women.

Fantastic! Leathery, dusty, dreamy. Good lasting power and very evocative of solitude and wide open spaces. Andy Tauer is a genius and I would love to see and smell at least 2 new perfumes a year from him. Hint: if you buy directly from Andy's website, the perfume is only $65. Support the guy!
