Fragrance Style
The Scoop
Concentrate of sophistication. Paul Vacher created Sortilège in 1936 as a tribute to the extravagant parties of the roaring twenties, a fragrance composed of over 80 essences where no single note overpowers the majestic bouquet. Aldehydes elegantly introduce a multitude of flowers, their sparkling brightness catching the light like diamonds on bare shoulders. Lilac and lily-of-the-valley bloom with ylang-ylang, creating a delicate yet commanding opening that announces arrival before the wearer speaks a word.
Jasmine, mimosa, rose, narcissus, and iris gather with flair and bombast at the heart, each flower adding its voice to a chorus of heightened femininity and pride. Narcissus contributes mystery to the hyper-femininity, while rose anchors the composition in timeless elegance. The fragrance rests atop a creamy bed of sandalwood, musk, amber, vetiver, and labdanum, creating a sensual foundation that feels both rich and distinctly feminine. In 1950, Sortilège became the signature scent for the Stork Club, an exclusive New York nightclub, earning prestigious ambassadresses in Marilyn Monroe and Ava Gardner. This is a fragrance that exudes distinction and the power of refined, unapologetic beauty.
