The Scoop
Inspired by wild chanterelles that bloom each summer outside her childhood home, welcome to Emma Vernon's mushroom-fueled fantasy, a two-part collaboration with Scents of Wood and Meabh McCurtin. Every July, the chanterelles bloom. Through the kitchen window, pastel and vermilion-hued fungi as smooth as marshmallows and as sweet as jam blanket the grass. Nature's candy. An embarrassment of riches. Rubies, sapphires, carnelians, little gems of the Earth emerge like ring pops shooting out from the dirt. In our own backyard. Had I known, I would have worn lipstick.
Strawberry guimauve and cinnamon bark open with soft, almost gourmand warmth, their sweetness immediately grounding the composition in something both edible and ethereal. Chanterelle accord, Moroccan orris, and rose form the heart, where the earthy, almost mushroom-like character of the chanterelle creates an unusual conversation with the powdery elegance of orris and the delicate sweetness of rose. Oakmoss, wet stone, and ambrette seed settle into the base, creating a composition that smells like moss-covered earth, like standing in a forest clearing where nature reveals its most precious treasures.
