The Scoop
Inspired by the film L’année Dernière à Marienbad, L’ombre d’hier is the olfactory echo of the dreamlike uncertainty that pervades Alain Resnais' surreal classic. In the endless halls of Marienbad, time curls in on itself. Corridors stretch with perfect symmetry, chandeliers glint on marble, and shadows hint at encounters long past. A man approaches a woman and insists they met here last year. She smiles as if both remembering and forgetting. Truth and memory blur, and certainty dissolves into a maze of longing. Leather and civet anchor the fragrance in the sensual presence of the body, while shimmering aldehydes flicker like light across marble floors. Musk and frankincense deepen the atmosphere, joined by basil’s green spark. Orris, geranium, lavender, and jasmine drift through the composition like fragile recollections, brightened briefly by bergamot.
Soft spices, coriander, clove, cumin, and carnation, create an intimate tension before settling into the earthy trail of vetiver, patchouli, and champaca. The result is a mysterious, melancholic fragrance that unfolds like memory itself: elegant, elusive, and suspended between what was real and what may only have been imagined.
