Zoologist Musk

The bottle that I am holding here is the limited edition bottle, which is why it's a little different than the usual ones. It's really beautiful. This bottle will run out and when it does, it will go to the black label that you probably are familiar with if you know zoologist perfumes. The scent will stay the same. This fragrance, Musk Deer, is based off of an actual musk deer, which is a type of animal. The idea is sort of the woods in the winter, so think crackling icy snowy woods. The actual musk deer does have fangs too, so this cool picture is a bit true to the form. The fragrance itself. Zoologist is known for having really artistic, interesting, challenging, out of the box type of fragrances. Some of them can be a little polarizing. Some people are not as into them as others, so it's really people that are into the art of perfume making really appreciate zoologist. This is definitely one of their most beautiful fragrances I think, so it's fully in the canon of zoologist. However, I would say the difference here is it's on the less challenging end. This is definitely a fragrance you could show to a lot of people and I think they would appreciate it, what I mean by that. There is this kind of freshness, this effervescence that comes through when you first smell musk deer. I think it comes from the cardamom, which cardamom gives this kind of peppery, lemony bite. There's this fizziness to the opening notes. There's rose, which is very subtle, but it adds this nice kind of floral touch, the softness. There's a little bit of calamus, which is like a spicy, slightly sweet woodsiness as well. Then that opens into some labdenum, some musk mallow. There's a little bit of oris in here, which has that sort of waxiness. There's patchouli. There's so many other notes going on. It's a really sounds complex, this fragrance, however, the scent itself is kind of clean and soft and, again, sparkling and pretty. I would say the musk does come through, especially in the dry down. You're going to get that soft, sort of clean, slightly powdery, musky vibe that goes a little anamolic. That little anamolic kick in the base, that is a zoologist's trademark and I definitely think that that comes through as you wear this. That being said, really pretty, everyday, easy to wear kind of a fragrance. If you are interested in zoologists, this might be a great one to start with. It's a beautiful bottle.
