The Scoop

A rich, warm and intense amber opens this magnificent perfume oil, enticing your nose with its soft, golden depths. Never one to keep things predictable, Regina Harris swirled in several delicate spices and laid it all on a reserved bed of vanilla. This is the rare kind of fragrance that transports you to a far-off place...a bazaar of sweet amber, soft silks, rich satins, hot sun and of spices simmering somewhere nearby. Mysterious and utterly captivating.

If you like Amber Vanilla perfume oil, we recommend you try:
Here's what other people are saying about Amber Vanilla...
Sophisticated, smoky amber, sweetened slightly by exotic vanilla (if you are looking for candy-fluff teeny-bopper vanilla, look elsewhere). If this won't get your desired person to be drooling at your feet, either (1) that person is immune to sensual delights or (2) that person does not have a sense of smell. Simply the most sensual amber perfume ever (and I say this as a 20+ year amateur perfumer myself).

This fragrance goes on clean, then gets deep. It starts off as almost masculine then warms up. I've been wearing it for a year and when it's back in stock plan on getting the frankincense.

Way too strong for me! I love vanilla but the amber really over powered me. I didn't hate it, just not for me. If you want a strong lasting scent this is it. I washed my arm three times and took a shower and could still smell it on me!

love love love!! I was hoping that I would really like this because I have been looking for an amber vanilla that suits me and also have been looking for an oil. I am very happy with this sample and will be buying.

I tried this as a sample almost a year ago, and I thought it wasn't for me...however, something made me want to try it again, and the second time I fell in love! I still use Frankincense, Myrrh and Rose Maroc, but this year I wanted something a bit longer-lasting (FMRM seems to wear off after a couple of hours on me) and more noticeable. Amber Vanilla is more potent, and this time I do notice more of an incense base--interesting, but I had received 2 sample tubes, and one tube was a bit more "powdery", and the other had a stronger incense scent--that incense scent won me over. I don't know why the difference in the samples, but I'm glad I went back and tried them again. The bottle is, of course, exquisite, and it looks great on my countertop next to its sister, FMRM. Yes, expensive, but both perfume oils are very concentrated and will last quite a while.

Comes on strong - be sparing with it. The first impression is a pungent, cedar with an incense note. A bit too strong and dry for my taste, but it softened after 2-3 of hours. Now, after 6 hours, it's warm and spicy and delightful. I'm not sure I want to carry the initial scent around that long while waiting for it to mellow; the jury's still out on that one.

Very disappointed. On my skin this turned dank, sour, and musty. I smelled neither amber nor vanilla. This reminded me of a more concentrated verstion of L'artisan Al Oudh. In other words, it smelled precisely like underarm odor yellowing a shirt.

Do not let this blonde concoction fool you. No, though the color of the oil suggests innocent playfulness, this stuff is POTENT. A little dab lasts for hours on end. I get the smoky incensey old gothic cathedral at high mass on my skin, and zero vanilla. I think the incenseiness comes as a result of the amber being really concntrated, instead of it having boswellia in it. Nevertheless, I like it, although I like its (even darker and smokier) black-haired cousin, FMRM, better.

I loved Frankincense, Myrrh, and Rose Maroc (FMR), so I got Amber Vanilla as a sample. It's a soft (as in somewhat powdery), sweet scent, but much stronger than FMR. It lasts longer, but people will smell you coming through the door. Pretty, but not for me...and I don't get the "incense" that others seem to get...mostly vanilla and honey on me.

I really do love this one, it smells like a high mass, but it's sexy and smoky at the same time. It reminds me of Halston Z-14 for men, I don't think it's even available anymore, but I loved it in the 80' gives off a bit of sandalwood on me, mixed with amber and that incensy smoke, I get no vanilla but I love it just the same. That being said, it's a bit more on the masculine side, but I love men's cologne! I will probably stick with Amber by Sage, since I get no vanilla in this one from my chemistry, which is a bummer because I LOVE vanilla. Give it a try, it's def a keeper!

Too incense-y and smoky on my skin right off the bat....don't think this is the amber I'm looking for. Don't want to smell like an old gothic cathedral.

Perfect for my "difficult" (acidic) skin- goes on luxurious and fades to an elegant, dry, slightly spicy note. Will become a favorite : I have a hard time finding a scent that agrees with my skin Ph.

I have no idea how a scent based on oils of amber and vanilla turned into "eau de soap" but they did!! Seriously, this perfume smells like a big white bar of perfume-y soap. Your grandmother would have used this scent to wash her laundry.

I love this. Smooth amber made smoother by vanilla . I thought it may be a headshop amber like Black Amber by Michele Bergman but this is smooth elegant ,warm, delicious, skin ehancing sutff. Reminds me of MPG Amber Precieux.

There is a deep, warm familiarity swirling throughout this fragrance. It's definitely sultry and sexy, a dark amber with a hint of creamy vanilla and perhaps a spike of woods? It's not as sweet as I expected, but not as dry as I feared, either. It's a powerful blend, not for every woman due to its almost-masculine energy. It's for steely-eyed Scorpios : -), for women who speak their mind and yet retain an air of mysterious allure....I am especially drawn to the gorgeous, intricate cobalt bottle.

It looks like you either love this or hate this. There's no in-between! I LOVE this! There's nothing like it. Two people stopped me just today to ask me what perfume I was wearing. It's a very sexy, exotic blend. It's definitely amber-vanilla-y, but I find it also sort of woodsy and spicy. It is very sultry and warm. I love it. It conjures up images of a harem or something like it. Additionally, the oil lasts all day for me, which is great.

This is a very special scent. Only use the barest minimum of amount otherwise this perfum may be overwhelming
By   - Professional from Washington DC on 6/12/2008
You either love this or hate it. I happen to love it. Probably wouldn't wear well in warm weather but it's nice in lower temps
By  on 3/12/2008
Very warm. A five rating from me!

For the price this isn't anything great. It's different but not in a good way

"hot sun" is right on! did not mesh well w/my chem & smelled like i'd been at an outdoor market all day...sweaty.
By  on 3/12/2008
Enticing, seductive, rich, captivating. Beautiful!
By   - from San Francisco on 1/8/2008
When first applied to my skin I instantly got a whiff of the spices. After it dried down a bit the amber was more noticeable. It's very sexy, mysterious, and bold, though not the amber-vanilla scent I was hoping for. If it were a bit softer and less spicy, it would be more appealing to my nose. Worth a try if you're curious about it.

Perfection! I finally found a scent that is my identity.

This oil is sexy and luscious. It lasts and lasts and my boyfriend swears its an aphrodisiac!
By   - singer from New York on 9/27/2007
Sounded like something I should love. 2 of my favorite notes - amber and vanilla. Put it on, soapy amber. VERY dry. As it wore - it became more soapy and unpleasant. No vanilla. No amber. Just the essence of bitter and astringent. I had to scrub it off after 20 minutes because the stench was so terrible. Sounds like this is more successful on other people's chemistry - or half of us got different perfume.....
By   - Trainer from Washington DC on 9/7/2007
Wow is this strong! The first day that I wore it, it overwhelmed me. Used less today, and still very strong. No vanilla on me, a lot of spice. It's okay as a spice scent, but that's not my thing.
By   - from Northern Virginia on 8/29/2007
This turns to burnt plastic on my skin. I had to scrub it off!
By   - Teacher from Denver on 8/22/2007
Very 'dry' perfume. A little overpowering and not as sensual as I'd hoped.
By   - from nyc on 8/14/2007
No.....sorry...maybe in a candle or on someone else. On me it was awful. I did not smell any vanilla......
By   - sales from rochester, ny on 1/13/2007
I think I've changed my mind about this fragrance. I decided to give it one more try, and the last couple of times I've worn it it hasn't smelled nearly as masculine as it did the first time. The amber in the beginning is still bitter, but I've actually grown to like this because I think otherwise this scent could be too sweet. It lasts for hours, and is wonderfully warm and spicy. I am thinking of buying it.

I really wanted to like this, because it sounded wonderful and the bottle is really cool, but I'm not sure this is the scent for me. It started out really bitter. When it mellowed out, it smelled nice, very mysterious, but after a while it just smelled like this cologne my dad wears. I like how my dad smells, but I don't want to smell like him! Such a disapointment. I will give it some points for staying power, however.

...did I mention downright sultry??? late night date and/or seal-the-deal HOT!
By  on 8/24/2006
Heavenly friggin' stuff! omigod, insanely divine! The warm glow that spreads almost immediately after application is so magnificent! Earthy-spicy-incensey WARMTH! How could an amber lover or a vanilla lover do without???
By  on 8/18/2006
Soapy amber, with the barest hint of vanilla.
By   - from BKK, Thailand on 5/19/2006
Wow - rich, sweet, heavy. I love it. Not so sure about the staying power, which is surprising since this is an oil. Maybe I'm being too stingy with it (trying to make this tiny little sample last!) Definitely NOT a foodie vanilla - it is much more amber - and in my book, that's a good thing. Having the most beautiful bottle this side of an byzantine throne doesn't hurt, either. Wonderful sweet, rich amber. Definitely a keeper.

I get pure patchouli... My mom wore a fragrance almost identical to this when I was a child... in the early 1970's!

it's a MUST HAVE if you love a deep mystery.
By   - from Baltime on 9/9/2005
I love this and can't wait to buy it the full size. On myself, it is warm and incredibly evocative, sweet and sensual at the same time. A tiny amount lasted all day and I delighted in feeling as if I'd been transported to an exotic locale in Morocco. Delicious!
By   - Accountant from St. Louis, MO on 8/31/2005
Wonderful smell and lasts quite a long time. The combination though strong is very decadent and rich. Will wear it for romantic nights out.
By   - Analytical chemist from Northern California on 8/29/2005
Sounds nice on paper, but the scent is very strong and a very dark amber with barely any vanilla.
By   - from NJ on 8/25/2005
It will take you to a far off place, a stinky, crowded bazaar you are dying to get out of. I will give it a plus on lasting power...I could smell it on me for forever.
By  on 8/20/2005
Got this for Valentine's Day last year and it is my going out scent. Very alluring, my husband can't get enough of this stuff. This is vanilla scent is rich, heady and incredibly sexy, there is nothing like it out there. Worth every scent because only a drop is needed to last until the next day!
By   - HR from Chicago on 7/26/2005
More amber than vanilla to me, but very smooth. I'd layer it with a vanilla lotion to bring out more of the vanilla side.
By   - from San Diego on 7/25/2005
If the original is anything like this, it must be magnificent as well. Luckyscent's description is spot-on. This could have been a flat, linear scent, but Harris balances out two of my favorite notes with some tart ingredients and spices that make it the best amber--and one of the best vanillas-- I've ever smelled. And it exudes that golden scent till you wash it off. Pricey, but worth every penny.
