Atelier de Balthus

In the painter's wood panelled studio, the rays of the north light fall like powder on the tubes, the palettes, the pots of paint, the sketched canvasses and the rags still soaked with linseed oil. The heady odour of turpentine floats in the air, mingling with the delicious smoky, honeyed, and woody aromas of tobacco and cedar.
