At first spritz, a dense, tropical wave blasts out of DOULEUR!2. A refreshing note of melon/cucumber is amplified by camphorous tea tree and a double dose of sweet, candied mint. Underneath this, a hazy, lactonic impression of a white floral that doesn’t quite read as jasmine or ylang but something completely new. The metallic rose from the first iteration has been tamed and evolved into something totally transparent, a hologram of metallic pink veiled over the composition. It is a radiant and somehow milky, rich aquatic and solar floral that finishes off with a spike of metal and salt. Balsamic resins, benzoin and civet at the end leave an exaggerated scent of hours long sun baked skin.
What We Think
The anticipated follow-up to Bogue's most provocative scent yet, Douleur!2 keeps the instantly recognizable sweet, metallic oxidized rose heart, but the confection sugar of the original is toned down in favor of brighter mint and a sexy, animalic resin base. Think of it as the Joaquin Phoenix Joker to the original's Heath Ledger- a new take on an iconic character that stands out every bit as much as its indelible predecessor.
