A vibrant citrus opening belies the deeper heart of the perfume. The aroma of saffron starts to wrap around you like holy robes, earthy and unmistakable. A dewy rose emerges, tickling your nose with a soft sweetness. Then, there it is, the surprise of leather nestled among the woods and vetiver. At once ancient and modern, Black Saffron brings all the traditions of the East alive while winking at you from the seat of a sleek motorcycle.

Byredo founder Ben Gorham, who was raised in India, worked with perfumer Jerome Epinette to create this homage to the holy spice that has become a symbol of India.

Fantastic fragrance. A great scent for a date out or even to a client meeting. It is quite potent which I value. As far as notes that I received, it came off quite floral yet there is a undertone of tobacco that I love.

Sexy, buttery, smoky. Like cigarettes without the tar. I like this scent better as a hair perfume but in either format it's a fun, subtle choice for a work dinner.

Echoing the reviewer who said cigarettes - that is very accurate on me as well. Spicy-fruity (really caught me off guard how nice it was at first), then BAM, cigarettes. The likeness to the scent of a person post-smoke is uncanny. It is really impressive for sure. I actually wouldn't mind it normally but I fear it may induce a headache for me.

I LOVE the tobacco smell, but it has a sickening synthetic floralness that's a little nauseating. The tobacco faces in the dry down, and the floral notes rise, so this perfume is not for me.

This smells fruity and dark, and thennnnn, cigarettes. I don't know where they come from, but this smells SO distinctly like the way perfume smells on someone who has just smoked a cigarette. This wouldn't be a bad thing except for that the sweetness mixed with the tobacco/cigarette smell is too much for my stomach. Three stars for an impressive synthesis of cigarette smoke.

I've only just tried this scent a half an hour ago, and there is something warm and enveloping going on here. Black Saffron is complex and yet grounded.
