Today, I'm trying out Molecule 05. Molecule 05 is a single note fragrance. It's really minimal. It only has one scent material, and that is cashmere. Cashmere is an aroma chemical that is considered a woody smell. And it's actually really popular. It's in so many fragrances that you already know and love. It's interesting to smell it on its own.

At first sniff, it reminds me a little bit of a fragrance called Chronic by 1969, which I like to describe to people as the smell of a damp forest floor or the woods after a rain. It definitely has this dampness and a very specific woodsy quality. But people talk about cashmere as having this cocooning, musky feel, hence the name cashmere or cashmere, and a touch of sweetness, which is part of that cocooning softness. And I would say that's definitely true.

In fact, if you ask me what are the big differences between Molecule 01 and Molecule 05, I would say it's probably that sweetness, this just very gentle sweetness that is very pleasing to smell. I have tried this a few times on my skin, and I find that after a few hours, I didn't really smell it so much on my skin, which is kind of normal for the Molecule fragrances in a Centric Molecule. But when I sprayed on my clothing, it was there all day, very present, and I love that.

I'm going to try layering this with some fragrances to see what happens, but it's so good on its own as well. If you're curious, and I know you are, there are a lot of eccentric Molecule fans, you need to try it. It's great. Molecule 05.

I didn't think it was possible to capture the smell of hot Mediterranean summer sitting under the pines looking out at the sea, but this is it! I wear this because it makes me feel like I'm somewhere else, but also because it plays well on my skin. Smells fresh and has just enough intrigue without being overpowering, which is what I prefer in a perfume.

I love this scent so much! Pine trees, hot summer days, hiking--it's all there. Sometimes when I hike in Griffith Park, I smell this scent on the breeze. I would love to see this mixed with something else (like Molecule 01 + Patchouli, which I also love). I give this 5 stars for the actual smell, but it doesn't last long, especially on the skin. I spray it on my clothes to make it last longer.

There was a moment when I thought I liked this. It passed. A rare miss in this line. Right off the top I was like, ooh! and then about 30 seconds later I was like oh. Cloyingly meh.

There I was, after opening Molecule 05, with a musky, wet dirt smell on my finger tips. On it's own, it was a nose-wrinkler. I don't mind wet dirt but holy cow this was a whole lot of it. I set it aside. I opened a vial of Dusita's Cavatina; a fresh, feminine muguet; bright, green, and a bit diaphanous. The two liquids together on my fingertips however? Lord have mercy... It was glorious. What I smelled was a profusion of muguet, pulled from damp dirt under on a warming spring day. THIS, this was the fragrance I had been looking for. Late at night, when everything else has worn off, the deep, soft musk of 05 will still waft up at you. Game changer. It's a game changer, people.

I adore Molecule 01 and get compliments on it from strangers. I got a sample of Molecule 05 in the interests of branching out, but on me it is just a weird smell (that fades within hours, unlike 01).

Loving this cashmeran molecule scent in my first full wearing of it today. I received a bunch of samples a couple days ago and this was the last one I tried. I did fall in love with another one, Milky Musk, and ordered a full bottle. BUT, I think I will have to buy a full bottle of this at some point. Cashmeran is a good name for the molecule. I am no good at describing notes & scents, but cashmere does come to mind. To me this smells like fuzzy, warm, milky, musky light caramel sort of. It is not heavy, it's light and transparent. I wore it on a 90 degree day in Florida heat and didn't feel smothered when going outside. It would definitely work well for layering. It's definitely worth a sample if you've tried and liked Molecule 01 or 02!

It breaks my heart that this one was a major disappointment to me. It smelled like dirt on my skin. Oddly enough Escentric 05 smelled great, so I was happy to be able to order a bottle of that one. But Molecule 05, at this point in time, is a hard pass. I'd be interested to see how this works on someone else's skin.
