The Scoop
Do Son is inspired directly from Yves Coueslant's childhood in Vietnam, where he grew up in Haïphong, a port in Northern Indo-China. Not far from there, in the little seaside resort of Do Son, his father had a pagoda built by the sea to go to and enjoy the sea air at the end of the day.

Do Son recalls the memory of this place where flower fragrances dominate, in particular the tuberose, whose scent his mother particularly loves. In Do Son, the tuberose and Turkish rose bouquet expresses a sweet flavour freshened up with the orange blossom leaf and the rose berries. The white musk and the iris add a delicately powdered aspect to it.

Extremely light and watery tuberose. To be honest if the notes hadn't listed tuberose as a note I wouldn't have known to call what I was smelling tuberose. To me this is a dilute fragrance with something vaguely recalling flowers and a nondescript clean base. The lasting power is poor and I had to practically pour half my sample on my arm to even smell this. Perhaps if you don't normally like floral fragrances this one would work well for you. Okay for a summer scent, but there are better choices than this.

Let me preface this: I am a man, and not necessarily "femme" in any way, and I get complimented on this every time I wear it, so although this is definitely a "heavy" floral, I think with the right chemistry this can be successfully worn by men... not that that matters anyway because I don't really believe in a scent being masculine or feminine, that's just social influence. That being said, I get an intense burst of gardenia and tuberose and that's mostly what sticks, it doesn't develop very much on me, but it's perfect the way it is. Very lush and romantic smelling.

I am yet to find a tuberose scent that smells like tuberose. They all smell of JASMINE which is in there. I know that they are both blended together in fragrances probably because it is cheaper this way (because I am sure they could find a compatible blend with something other than jasmine if they even dared try!) but should this be to a point where you don't even bother mentioning jasmine as one of the notes? It is after all the dominant note in "tuberose" fragrances after all!!

This starts as a big flouncy southern-belle dress tuberose, a bit scarey. Follows me around for about 2 hours then has a wonderfully uniform dry-down with a mix of sweet tuberose and rose. Very easy to live with after those first 2 hours when I felt I couldn't go to the grocery store in case I ran into someone I knew. The uniform and true dry-down make it worth it.

Wonderful! After a disgusting, heavy blend of Tuberose (and by Keiko Mecheri L'Artisan), this is finally a sophisticated, refined and beautiful compositions of tuberose. The fresh, intoxicating fragrance and memorable!

I really can't say enough good things about this perfume. It smells so amazing on me, DEFINITELY coming back for the full size. One spray is plenty, it lasts all day. The scent is just heavenly... fresh, not overpowering. Makes me think of white linen. The scent also really boosted my mood. I love it.

This is a pretty scent. I'm not usually fond of perfumes that have a heavy oriental influence, but this one is an exception to the rule.

I love so many of the Diptyque fragrances; Do Son is no exception. This line has so many scents which are truly evocative. I smell them and I am transported to other times, places and memories. Do Son is a very wearable tubrose. Really. I find so many tubrose scents are too big and bold for me to be comfortable wearing them. They tend to overpower, but not Do Son. It is comfortable and lovely but does not dominate the wearer. It is both airy and watery without any of that aquatic ozone-like accord which I personally find off-putting in many beachy fragrances. Do Son is a bit like catching the scent of flowers in the breeze on a warm and humid day. If you enjoy soft, unusual and evocative florals I would suggest buying a sample. This is appropriate dressed up or down. I find it quite beautiful. Another winner from Diptique in this woman's opinion.
