Oud 27
Eau de Parfum
by Le Labo

The Scoop
The first new worldwide fragrance since Le Labo was created, Oud 27 uses its title note as a point of departure into the richly ornamented, dark and luscious world of oriental perfumes, weaving a story so multi-faceted and vivid that it might be an olfactory equivalent of one of Scheherazade’s tales. The vibrant darkness falls with the very first accord, an extravagantly opulent mix of Atlas cedar and incense. The dry, resinous blend is brightened and softly sweetened by saffron, the golden spiciness of which glistens within the nocturnal fabric of Oud 27 like a constellation of far away stars. Gaiac and patchouli further deepen and enrich the balsamic top notes and lead the scent into an even more sensual territory. At once expansive and wild, yet surprisingly intimate and soft, the scent is beautifully androgynous and would befit both Scheherazade and Shahryar. The creators call Oud 27, One Thousand and One Nights, bottled. We are so mesmerized by this oriental masterpiece that we would wear it for one thousand and one nights in a row and not miss another perfume.

To address the Band aid comments, it's true...initially when you spray Oud 27 it smells sharp, medicinal, like all the juice squeezed out of a band aid and applied to the skin. But that smell morphs into pure Oud, wood, incense, and becomes the most interesting perfume i have ever smelled. I'm a female, I love wearing this, and probably will buy another bottle when I run out of this one.

This is the purest, definitive Aoud to me. This is it. VERY similar to Kilian's "Pure Oudh". People generally say it smells weird, antiseptic, musty, astringent. It is difficult to describe, but it has a Sweet medicinal woodyness. Has this deeply penetrating Animal quality. Quite honestly... it dries to so intoxicatingly sweet, and i must say... somewhat reminiscent of Horse Fur. It lasts a long time, and settles into the skin so well. This is some curious good stuff.

When I first smelled this, I found the sort of sharp fecal opening slightly challenging, to say the least. However, once I tried it on my skin it blossomed into a warm, complex, and extremely addictive beast. My friend likened it to hunting a boar in a dense forest: first you detect its spoor, ripe and pungent amid the underbrush. Secondly, you chase your prize through the dry timber. Finally, you come upon the animal itself, sweating and primal. It is at that moment that you and the beast become one! Can't get enough.

i just came back to this sample after forgetting about it for a long time. i don't usually wear musky or skanky scents, but for some reason, i'm suddenly obsessed with this. it's not too heavy on the skank, but it smells distinctly sexual to me. at the end of the workday, it's still lingering on my skin, totally androgynous and impossible to categorize.

This is the kind of scent I would like Le Labo to keep making. It's a very polarizing scent -- you either love it or hate it. I love it. I'm a guy, and I get compliments whenever I wear this. Apply this very sparingly, though. It smells a bit cloying when it is hot -- so I avoid wearing it on hot days.

At first i didn't know what the heck this was! This is really of of the weirdest things I've smelt that comes in a bottle. Somewhat feminine and mysterious but pure animalistic. The one who said it had a note of skank where spot on. This is for the naughty girls who likes to play on the dark side. I really like it for its utter uniqueness and also for it's weirdly sexually mesmerizing qualities.

I've sampled tons of oriental, woody fragrances. This one smells like a big expensive, newly-opened, freshly-distilled BAND-AID. Pass the NEOSPORIN please!

The initial scent was headache-inducing but evaporated down to a decent dark and sweet oud. Not for the faint hearted, but if oud suits you, this is one to try.

hmmm... this one is mysterious. The scent goes on rather woody. Deep dark resin. The saffron gets a little stinky but fades for a while and then reappears in they dry down. Turns rather soft and powdery with cedar notes and a hint of skank. Intriguing and exotic. Pretty long lasting.

WAY too fecal for me. Smells like the diaper of a small child who has just started eating mashed carrots and that banana-strawberry baby food in a jar.

This is great on my husband. I was shocked he liked it because it's defintely weird..and skanky. Hard to describe because when I think of the scent of Oud 27 the words that come to mind are "round" and "purple" (but not in the same sentence). Sorry to be so abstract but that is what I think when I smell it. It does remind me of the scent of red wine aging in wooden barrels. This is one of those scents you have to try for yourself-a description is not going to do it justice

This is a fantastic scent; Enigmatic, dry, edgy and masculine. Didn’t know what to think of it at first, it’s more than a little harsh when wet, but it quickly grew on me. It has a lot of depth and great development over the day. The downside would be that it is a bit opaque. {Not much like the also fantastic Montale oud at all. The Montale is sweeter, more rounded and mainstream. We compared the two this morning and, other than the key note, I can’t figure out why the others are putting these two scents together.}

Well, in short it was not a thrilling scent to me. It was horrible when first put on and then just plain undesirable later. I do not like this one AT ATT

I so wanted to love this. It is clearly a complex mix of high-quality ingredients, but this particular mixture of arid, resinous wood notes reminds me, sadly, of bug spray.

This is not a "big"Oud like Montales....the saffron plays a big role in this one.....it starts for a nano second with a touch of sweet, then quickly goes to a mix of saffron and oud....the woods, gaiaic and cedar ary DRY.....if you are hoping for something sweet in here, it not there, only for 3 seconds in the initial spray. The incense and patch is not over bearing. This has an earthy vibe to it, and some might pull a *band-aid* note in this as well. Overall, another well made fragrance by Le Labo!

Didn't get any skank at all from this, it was a soft oud scent, not strong at all. Lasting power is good, but if you are a big oud fan, this might not have enough oomph for you.

I wore this today to an art opening by an artist who works in wood - I felt it would be appropriate since it smells of exotic wood shavings. There is something very comforting about this scent, and alluring without being overtly sexy. I enjoyed my own sillage and it lasted several hours, even though I only dabbed a small amount. Definitely worth a try if you like wood scents.

Very addictive, and very raunchy, purely animalic, for a moment I smell ripe BO, then a beautifull wood, musk. A must have if you want something completly different. sorry Luckyscent, the description couldn't be more wrong.
