There's something about this time of year, coming into fall, where it feels like back to school. It's been a long time since I went back to school, but think of it as back to work, back to reality. And I like to think of fragrances that you would wear when you wear a suit.

So I'm looking at some of these traditional masculine fragrances. They're all going to be in that fougere style, which is built of herbal aromatic notes, like lavender and sage and geranium with some tonka bean in the base. I love this style of scent. It's timeless and kind of soapy.

So of this style, here are some of my favorite examples. This is Bon Monsieur from Rogue. I actually think Rogue makes fragrances in a vintage style so perfectly. And for me, this channel's 80s masculine fragrance. It's that traditional fougere style. In fact, the lavender really comes through, but I love that little bit of patchouli in the base of this.

This fragrance from Domenico Caraceni is very hard to come by, but we always have it here at Scent Bar and at Lucky Scent. It was made for the clients of Domenico Caraceni, who is kind of seen as the father of Italian tailoring, who really had his heyday in the mid-20th century. This is pure class. Of course, you get the lavender, but what's so interesting and compelling about this fragrance is that rose and frankincense. It puts it into a different direction. Very one-of-a-kind.

Cologne Officinal from Healey, again, has your lavender and your geranium. But I get a mintiness. I didn't see mint included in the list of notes of this scent, but it did say basil. In fact, it's supposed to be a journey into the Mediterranean and get those beautiful Mediterranean herbs. This has a light touch, and this is exactly something I'd want to wear with a suit.
