These capture our relationship and experience in the water. The minerals in the ocean are understood by our bodies and minds in almost imperceptible ways. Our nose can identify them.

The scent of ‘green bar soap’ captures the daily lived experience of African surfers growing up in Southern Africa. Green bar soap is a common household soap found throughout the region, that has the power to conjure memories for many people, summoning up the idea of home, or mother, fresh linen, or the beginning of a new day.

The signature fragrance was developed in partnership with South African-born Etienne de Swardt, founder of niche fragrance house Etat Libre D’Orange.

This is a lovely fragrance. Very intense soapy, salty marine opening. Punchy and fresh. The dry down is still soapy, but maybe more woodsy and herbaceous. Overall, very wearable, pleasant scent. Unlike any other fragrance I have smelled, yet very familiar. Looking forward to wearing this in the summer heat.

I was so excited to receive my sample kit today and made Neo-Animism my first try. It is so wonderful. I have never experienced the African ocean or held green soap so I cannot make those comparisons but it is very light and clean while having this very mysterious staying power. I put it on this morning and laying in bed now it is so warm and strong but I love it. It smells sky blue but feels like new suede. I understand why Mami Wata is a water spirit now. I have 5 other samples in this kit and this is going to be hard to beat. A+

I tried the sample and thought it a good green scent. Unfortunately, this did not work for me once I received the bottle. The atomized version does have a sour scent that lingers. Since the ocean itself does not have a scent, one can only assume that whatever is in the ocean, stinketh.

This has good performance, like a chypre or an oud, in that it's possible to apply an amount so that it's not overpowering but still lasts over time in a satisfying way. It's very satisfying. The initial impression is clean and I see what they are doing with the ocean mineral facets. As it settles it smells more green in a grassy sour way that's a little similar to marijuana but maybe more like seaweed. I like it a lot but am classifying it under more challenging perfumes since the dominant note is a unique kind of green.

Love this fragrance…hard to pin point or compare. African soap was not anything I was familiar with, but took a chance. The dry down is lovely, clean and fresh with great staying power without overwhelming. I am always searching for a clean “soap” smell without the powdery finish and this offers a unique twist on a clean smell. Back to the office is not a concern with this fragrance..
