I've been a big fan of Ex Nihilo for a long time. I particularly love their floral perfumes, which is why I was so excited to smell Explicit, because this contains some florals like Peony and Lily of the Valley.

The story that this fragrance is telling is one of a sensual summer night, steamy and full of desire and temptation. So it's no surprise that it smells sensual, very sensual, a little bit exotic. I love that. The florals in there don't give it a crispness. Usually Lily of the Valley comes across as springtime and clean and fresh to me, and this is not that style of scent. In fact, I would classify this as an oriental.

The Orientals are those perfumes that have spice and amber and sandalwood in the base. Specifically, this has pink pepper and a really great woody amber accord at its base, along with sandalwood. I would even go so far as to say that it has a slightly Middle Eastern style about it. So if you're a fan of Middle Eastern style fragrances, then you need to check this out.

Although it does not have oud, a lot of people think of Middle Eastern fragrances as just being oud scents. This is very sensual. And I think what is helping that come across is the vanilla. There's vanilla in this fragrance, but it's not a cupcake style smell. It's in no way gourmand, but the sweetness is there. In fact, I would say this is probably the sweetest fragrance that I've smelled from Ex Nihilo. Very sensual and soft.

Now, even though I think most things can be considered unisex, because it really depends on your skin and how it smells on you, particularly, I think most people would agree that this is very feminine. The longevity and the projection are outstanding. This is definitely a statement fragrance, something that you put on when you want to get noticed.

I'm a big fan. Explicit from Ex Nihilo.

Oud, oud, more oud, sandalwood - just smells like straight up incense on me, sadly. I really thought I would love this but the sandalwood/oud is too overpowering on my skin and even the little dabs on the back of my hand are projecting like crazy. No thanks.

Exquisite. The gentleman on the video above does a really good job of describing it, better than I ever could. On me, this is only slightly oriental/spicy, and more of a delicate floral. And it is definitely addictive. If it fits the description in the first paragraph above, it does so more in the manner of an elegant, floral-print silk-chiffon whisper of a summer dress, than in the blunt manner one might otherwise imagine. This is all class in its allure and seductiveness. But once it's got you, you'll be hooked. Full-bottle worthy.
