This is Overture from Amouage. I'm really interested in this fragrance because there's so many different things happening all at once. So I definitely get something very bright and zingy, I'm even going to say. And I think that's coming from grapefruit and ginger up at the top.

But then, you are just bathed in spices and incense. I get a really fantastic frankincense in here. And a touch of cumin, a spice that does resemble a little bit of body odor. So that's what I find so interesting. It's clean and soapy and at the same time it's a little dirty, which in my opinion makes it ultra sophisticated.

Who wants the same old fougere that everyone is wearing when you can do something that kind of harkens to a different time and place? This really transports me. This is Overture from Amouage.

The opening is spectacular, a distinctive concoction of pungent acidic grapefruit, ginger, cumin, and cognac goodness. It hits you in the face in a good way, it's so well blended, it reminds me of Myths Man. It envelopes the user with an aura of death and decay, a vomit-like smell lingers for a moment before turning into a smoky, leather, animalic skin scent, after 8hrs, it leaves a waxy, creamy old book smell behind.

Ultra brash, direct, and complex. A funky, spicy, ash tray. Gives me flashbacks of Turkish men in wool suits, smoking cigars on a TWA aircraft in Ankara, circa 1981. The Ottoman Empire’s encampments probably smelled like this. An exceptional creation, but I can see where others would not agree. Sniff it out anyway to punish your senses and culture your nose palette.

My first Amouage, and still my favorite (Beach Hut and Fate being close seconds). The opening is so original and shocking — grapefruit, cognac, saffron, ginger. It's heavenly, and those notes stick around for a good long while. It dries down to spices and resins, so luxurious. It lasts well over 10 hours. Even after I had it on for about 4 hours, a male friend from 6ft away said "You smell delicious!". Men never compliment me on perfume. This is an absolute masterpiece.

The most intoxicating scent. Grapefruit, ginger, cognac, saffron, cumin, incense. It projects and lasts and lasts. Possibly my most complimented fragrance, and the one I keep reaching for over and over. A masterpiece.
