Invasion Barbare

Eau de Parfum

by Parfums MDCI

The Scoop
A masculine scent created by a young and talented female perfumer, Stéphanie Bakouche, Invasion Barbare is an elegant and soulful portrait of a man of every woman’s dream. He exudes warmth, intelligence and sensitivity as well as strength. And yet, sensitive as he is, there is a passionate Barbarian hidden under his refined exterior. Like that ‘Perfect Man’, Invasion Barbare combines elegant understatement with lots of warmth and an unexpected, mesmerizing depth. The composition is built on the contrast of freshness and warmth, on the intriguing balance of citrus fruits, lavender, spices and vanilla and woods. Invasion Barbare is a tranquil, comforting scent, as soft as it is piquant. It is a soft-spoken fragrance, there is nothing overly forceful about it, and yet it is full of charisma. One gentle whiff of its delicately-spiced notes and we are enthralled. We strongly believe that this beautiful blend might and should be used as a shared fragrance.

My friend, who is very much into niche perfumes, gave me about 40 different samples from Lucky Scent. This was one of the first that I tried. This is an absolutely intoxicating scent. The first time I wore it, I had to stand in line for a concert outside in 85 degree heat. I was very quickly drenched with sweat. Somehow, it made me smell even better! The citrus opening gave way to cardamom and a slight rubber note, which might just have been me. The heat, however, really brought out the base notes during the dry down, and it was magnificent. On my skin, this incredibly heady mixture of vanilla, musk, patchouli, and lavender had outstanding projection and longevity. I couldn't stop smelling myself. Today, a month later, I have decided to wear it again, and while it's no longer hot enough to intensify those base notes, my first impression was correct. Someday soon, I'll own a full bottle.

I like it. It's not a full bottle worthy scent on my skin, but it's well crafted juice. It's very bright, fresh and clean smelling. The initial layer is very soapy & squeaky clean. It smells like a bar soap you would find in a fabulous hotel and enjoy in the bath over the course of a weekend. It's the scent you'd take pleasure in being reminded of, maybe you find a candle or a room spritz that smells similar and say "OH! It's like that wonderful soap from ____!" But it's not my everyday scent. It's not the hypnotic, arm sniffing smell I've been craving. After settling on my skin it's turned a little bitter, a hint of powder, some sweetness. I definitely find it to be pleasant, but really in the way of potpourri. I am certain this scent works beautifully on an elegant man with a shaved face and ironed shirt. Alas, that's just not the scent I was hoping to find!

Barber shop scent. Powerful, somewhat unique, and very quality. I don't love it, but I respect it.

Smells expensive and well made. Has great longevity. Doesn't fit "my" personality. Not that it smelled bad, but something about it made me want to wash it off. No doubt a great fit for someone else. 4.75 stars.

The fragrance is the finest modern fougere fragrance on the market. The sweetness is underplayed, and the woods and floral aspects are all quiet confidence. The resin bust costs about $1.50 to produce (boxed and delivered) and at retail adds $125 to the cost of the fragrance! Now that is an invasion barbare! It is a very healthy mark up, but in my opinion the bust adds the perfect touch of class to the Invasion Barbare, if you are a fan of this warm comforting juice.

Very elegant, refined, and subdued. This could easily be my signature scent (Very pricey though).

Invasion Barbare is as good as perfume gets. Puredistance "M" and Invasion Barbare are two of the best scents currently being produced on the planet.

oh my god, this is just a phenomenal scent. I've been through many samples while saving money to buy a bottle. Great during the spring and summer.

I had been going between making a sample purchase of IB for a long time and finally succumbed last week to include a sample in my order from Luckyscent. Well all I can say is that my hesitation was rewarded more than I could ever have imagined. Invasion Barbare appears to be a perfect cherub of a scent. Heavenly, dazzling, majestic but not without a deeply compelling side with just a hint of darkness. The development on the skin is a study in subtle contrasts: fresh vs sweet, clean vs naughty. All the time the sheer quality and design prowess is never in question throughout the scents evolution. I recall Puredistance M as a near perfect oriental but now Invasion Barbare goes a step further and chooses to not fall prey to the same minor mishaps as M. Gone is the thick heaviness of M and now we have a tranparent lighter more affable scent. Good enough to justify the money ?...A resounding yes ..that is of course if you can avoid being addicted to the stuff. I was starting to doubt if there was indeed a scent out there that could come close to a Holy Grail item for me. Now that I have sampled Invasion Barbare, I feel my journey has not been in vain

Gorgeous...wish it were one-third the price...I'd make it my signature frag. P.

I don't have the most discriminating nose in the world but this reminds me of my beloved Jicky extrait. If I could afford it, I would buy a bottle and WEAR IT!! I still might do it.

I want this perfume. I can't afford it... but i want it. Perfect for a woman who likes a deep, complex, "masculine" scent.

I was a tad skeptical about the floral notes as I usually like woodsy, spicy even incense but thought I would try it anyway as I am changing alot of the old in my life. I am in LOVE with this cologne and my colleagues comment how great I smell. Maybe it's how I feel wearing it but I win more cases in court than I do wearing another cologne or maybe it has to do with the Sophistication of the fragrance that gives an aire of intelligence, who knows, I will keep this fragrance in stock from now on. A must have!!! Thanks

A fresh fragrance that opens with notes of non-citrusy grapefruit, violet leaves and cardamom. As it dries down, a barbershop heart of powdery lavender emerges (similar to Le Male by Jean Paul Gaultier), supported by ginger and cedar over some clean musk. Deep into the drydown is a Jicky-like leather (most likely castoreum and a touch of civet) that almost goes under the radar. The best way I can describe Invasion Barbare is that it's a fresh-oriental lavender fougere with a musky leather base. Although this fragrance is anything but barbaric, I imagine the name is a double entendre, referencing both its clean barbershop (ie. "barbare" shop) lavender and animalic barbarian base of leather. Over all, it's a classy smell that emits positive vibes and makes me feel like an alpha male (cool, calm, collected and confident). If I hadn't found this in my quest for my holy grail, I might have lost hope somewhere along the way. This is one of the few fragrances out there that is good enough to be a Guerlain, and modern enough to not smell like grandpa. A modern masterpiece.

This is a refined fragrance, wow, softly masculine and definitely wearable by a woman. Smells beautiful and warm on the skin. Great for this cooler weather coming.
By Parfumnut on 9/13/2009
masculine. I applaud the woman who can pull this off. well done. smells intelligent and expensive.
By lulllull on 8/25/2009
Elegant, expensive, wonderful. To wear this scent you should look as good as you'll smell. I'm not sure this scent can be "dressed down".

Like a once in a lifetime night with a handsome stranger onboard a yacht sailing in exotic waters. Dangerously beautiful. Unfortunately, with prices starting at over $200 per bottle, I doubt I will ever be able to buy anything larger than a sample of this scent.

This is an absolutely gorgeous scent for either a man or a woman.
By parfumnut on 8/19/2008
A very finely crafted scent. I'm always so leery of the drydown in leather based scents, as they tend to turn on me. Invasion Barbare turns, but in the right direction! I can't explain the metamorphosis of this fragrance, but it's one amazing process. If it weren't for the high price tag....

This is my favorite of the entire Parfums MDCI line - it may be labeled a man's scent, but trust me, any woman can wear this gorgeous, sexy and soft leather beauty. This is definitely on my to-buy list this year.
