Luckyscent Videos: Fille en Aiguilles by Serge Lutens

Fille en Aiguilles is French for girl on needles and it's the name of this really amazing fragrance from Serge Lutens. I think the name has two meanings. Aiguilles needles can refer to a stiletto heel. Imagine a girl wearing stiletto heels. But because this is a pine-focused smell, it could very easily be referring to pine needles. In fact, when I smell it, I think of just bringing together a whole bunch of sticky pine needles and just breathing in the forest. I definitely get that feeling from this fragrance.

Pine is a little bit cheeky because sometimes fragrances that feature pine can smell a little medicinal. I think the success of this fragrance is because the pine notes are paired really beautifully with a slightly sweet candied fruit smell and also a beautiful waft of incense. I'm going to say specifically frankincense because frankincense already has that kind of pine smell.

When this came out in 2009, it instantly became my favorite fragrance from this brand. Maybe because I like incense fragrances so much. If you like incense, you'll definitely enjoy wearing this. And then recently, the fragrance kind of disappeared as the brand redesigned their bottles and kind of re-presented them in a different way. So now this is in a different series. It's called the Graziell edition, little black skyscrapers. It's a bigger bottle than before. Now it's 100 milliliters, but it's also more expensive. Just something to take note of.

I love this smell very much. Incense fans will definitely like this right away, but you definitely get pine. That's what sets this apart from other churchy incense fragrances. And you get that sweetness, which is something I'm not used to in a lot of the incense fragrances that I like to wear. It almost makes me think of some interesting candy you might find in Switzerland or Scandinavia with pine and fruit. It's good for you, but also tastes nice.
