Like many, many people out there, I've long been a fan of the perfume house Nasomatto. Nasomatto in Italian means crazy nose, and these fragrances are designed by a very interesting iconoclastic character in the perfume world named Alessandro Gottieri. The brand is probably best known for a fragrance called Black Afgano. You have it here in the cult classics shelf. It's a very dark, as you can see literally, mysterious woody amber scent, kind of intoxicating and just brings you into another world.

This is the best known for the brand, but my favorite personally is one of the newer releases, and it's called Baraonda. Baraonda, I learned, is Italian for uproar, but in my opinion, it's not uproarious. In fact, it's the opposite. It's actually very comforting and cozy, and I really love to wear it. I think it's a little bit softer than some of the other Nasomatto fragrances, which does not mean that it's not strong. In fact, one spray of this will last forever.

Baraonda, like all the other fragrances from Nasomatto, are X-Tres de Parfum concentration, so higher than X-Tres de Parfum. One spray, and you're good for the day. What I get from Baraonda is, in one word, whiskey. It's very boozy. It's very whiskey, in fact. The cap of the bottle is made from cork, and I think you get this sensual image of a wine-soaked cork, but it's not really wine that I smell. It's definitely whiskey, and maybe a little bit of leather.

I feel like I'm in an old den, reading an old leather-bound book, holding a glass of whiskey. It's so comforting. There's some fruit notes in here, particularly apple and quince, but it's not gourmand. It's not particularly fruity. If you do get fruit notes, it's almost like the fruit notes you get when you smell whiskey or drink whiskey.
