After trying dozens of samples I've finally found my scent! Arso wasn't it, Hinoki wasn't it, Kyoto wasn't it... THIS is IT. Mellow and kind of sexy. I agree with everything said in the preceding 5 star reviews. Not a beast of projection but lasts quite long on my skin and clothes. If you really want it loud, spray more.

This is a phenomenal scent. HWYL is a dry, woody, earthy, spicy incense scent with emphasis on the earthiness and woodiness. Despite the strong aromatics I just described, it never is overbearing and is subtle, calming and mysterious in it's own way. In can be a bit strong on the smokiness when first smelling close to the skin, but this mellows out within the first 30 min, and only gets better as it dries down. Last 8+ hours easily for me. The scent changes depending on various factors, which keeps it smelling different enough day to day. If you are looking for an earthy fragrance that is not overbearing or does not smell like the typical perfume counter or men's cologne, this is it.

Beautiful scent, but only lasts for about an hour. Comme de Garcons would be a better choice.

Just No. Try Comme de Garcon. This is a fantastic scent, but only lasts about an hour or a little more. I dont know if its because its synthetic fragrance, but it is gone way too quickly. Its a shame.

Spicy, smoky, stays. Has a bit of that 'surviving in the woods' vibe. Quite masculine but would certainly work on femme presenting folks, they'd just smell kinda masculine that day. If my boyfriend had this I would borrow it occasionally, but I'm not buying a bottle for myself.

People describe this as a woody fragrance. I would describe the scent like an old wood smell. Not the new freshly cut wood. It has a hint of earthy/musk scent behind it. I would recommend for people who want to smell like more masculine. The scent lasts a long time. 10/10 would recommend!

The description is spot-on regarding CDG Hinoki and Incense Kyoto, for those looking for the magic Goldilocks in between the two. If Kyoto is too light and clean, and Hinoki too sharp and intense, Hwyl is the one that brings just the right combination of cedar and incense. This is warm and refreshing, without excessive complication, and without a chemical headache for me. It does lean a bit to the masculine side, so if not a signature for some, it is a decidedly great scent to have to cleanse the palate when taking a break from everything else.
