Luckyscent Videos: Love and Crime by Ex Idolo

Love & Crime by Ex Idolo is considered a gourmand or a deep floral gourmand and it is personally one of my favorites that we carry at Scentbar. It is actually based off of a really fun, kind of whimsical true story of a Boston prison break in 1905 where saws were baked into a wedding cake and they escaped, and this whole cute love story with a happy ending happens. Hence, in this perfume there are notes of baking sugar and vanilla sponge cake.

That being said, the opening of this beautiful perfume is actually red mandarin and pink pepper which really, to me, gives this sparkling, very vibrant sort of effervescent opening of citrus when you first smell it, which is not like a lot of gourmands that go straight to the sweet. So you’re going to get this burst of citrus and this kind of freshness. Then it goes into the heart notes, which are the deeper florals. They’re muted, not very noticeable, and then the baking sugar and this beautiful note of anise, which adds this kind of complex spiciness. It’s not quite licorice, not that far, but just this little bite is how I think of it.

In the base, as it warms up on the skin, you’re going to get that vanilla sponge cake, which sounds kind of cute and silly but it actually is this beautiful kind of deep, almost buttery vanilla note that’s in the base with cocoa, which adds again another layer of some depth and darkness to counter the sweet and the bright. So it’s really quite a complex gourmand, really beautifully done. It’s so much fun to wear.
