So one of my favorite shelves in the store is the Unexpected and Unusual section. Since we have a lot of indie and obviously niche fragrances, this is where a lot of perfumers sort of can kind of play, experiment, and all the stuff that kind of they wouldn't be able to release anywhere else but in their own brand kind of lives here.
You get stuff like Holy Hell by Universal Flowering, beautiful notes of neroli, violet, and ambergris, but in reality it really smells like hose water, which I think is pretty exciting. Like the best hose water you've ever smelled, and it kind of takes you back to a childhood memory or something and it's also wearable.
Then moving on to something like Burmite Honey by PRIN Parfums. This is a really interesting use of beeswax as an accord. A lot of people don't realize how animalic and sort of challenging beeswax can be, so this really showcases that material and that note in a really beautiful, unexpected way.
Moving on to something like Metal Redux by Cotesau de Pouche. Imagine like Chanel No. 5 and the aldehydes in there amped up to a million, and what you get is this really metallic, pretty unusual industrial smell while also smelling clean. Imagine like Lou Reed's metal machine music in a bottle.
And then one of my favorites, Acro Night, Olivier Cresp, created this really cool juxtaposition of clean and dirty, where he's using a very beautiful rose with a lot of cumin, which can read like body odor-ish. So what you start off with is this blast of cumin that's sort of challenging and dirty, but then it winds down and you're left with these like beautiful rose-scented bed sheets on your skin.
