So, I've been spending as much time as I can with the newest release from the House of Papillon, Epona, which Liz Moore has released as a tribute to her horse. You can kind of feel, like with all her other stuff, this kind of aliveness to the fragrance that permeates through all the notes that are listed here.
It opens up in a really interesting way with, at a distance, it smells green and soapy, but when you get up close to it, you kind of get a smokiness, like in Bois de Sez or fragrances like that. And then, as it dries down, it changes so much and becomes this beautiful dry hay with a little bit of an animalic, a horsey musk.
But to me, it's my favorite horsey fragrance, if that's even a genre, because it kind of takes this more nostalgic and abstract and impressionistic approach to that kind of DNA, like a Chanel Cuir de Russie, but a little bit more alive.
