I remember the first time I ever tried Bois d'Asces from Naomi Goodsir. It was love at first sniff. That doesn't happen that often for me, so Bois d'Asces is a very special fragrance and I've been wearing it for years. It's super smokey. It's kind of the equivalent of being next to a campfire and letting the smoke just get into your clothing.

You might wonder why I want to smell smokey, but I just love that smell. A nice wood smoke is one of my favorite smells. I think of burning pinon logs. It's kind of like a natural incense. I like the memories that get conjured up when I smell a good smoke. I think of being with friends next to a campfire under a starry sky or by a cozy fireplace in the middle of winter sipping a Laphroaig whiskey maybe. I like the way it makes me feel and that's good enough reason for me to want to wear a fragrance.

Bois d'Asces isn't the first smokey scent, nor is it the only one. There are a few out there, but what I like about this one in particular is that it's balanced. It does smoke right and in my opinion that's pretty tough. I've smelled other smokes that are maybe a little too sweet or spicy and they start going into an edible vibe, almost like barbecue, which is not really what I want. Or if a smoke is too dry, I find that it does something unpleasant in my nose. It's just aggressive and not something that I want to smell like.

This one is mellow. It goes nicely on your skin. The smoke stays there, but it's warmed by that cystus labdanum and cinnamon and whiskey. It's a very easy scent for me to wear. In fact, I also layer it sometimes with incense fragrances or wood fragrances or one of my tips is the classic Fahrenheit from Dior. Believe it or not, this with that gasoline-y Fahrenheit smells amazing together
