Someone turn me on to this pure sandalwood oil that you can buy at an Indian cultural center here in Los Angeles. I got myself a little bottle and it's truly remarkable. It's the oil from Santalum Albom, which is the kind of sandalwood that grows in Mysore, India. It's the most beautiful style of sandalwood.
I can smell bread and nuts and the finest wood. It's just such a gorgeous scent, but I've never found a perfume that captures the beauty of that smell until now. This is Santa Sangre from Bortnikoff. It starts off with the citrus. They list grapefruit, but I was getting orange and then goes into something kind of spicy like cardamom.
And then something kind of funky and animalic, I thought it was oud, only to reveal the most perfect sandalwood that brings me right back to that oil that I love. This is truly a knockout and one of my favorite things of late and I'm going to be wearing a lot of Santa Sangre.
