Histoires de Parfums - 1969

What are you wearing? The perfume was released in 2001 and the perfumer is Gerard Ghislaine, and it pays homage to the year 1969. It's very sensuous and erotic, with a great patchouli base. I'm guessing the patchouli is a nod to the 1960s.

It lists a lot of summer fruits like peach and fruits of the sun. It's actually listed as a note. It's there, for sure. You smell the fruit. But this is no summer walk through an orchard. It's not that kind of a scent. It's actually much more nighttime and much more sensuous. It has this deeper voice to it. And I think it's because of the spices in there. There's clove and cinnamon.

But in the base, you get the patchouli, like I said, but also chocolate and coffee. And although I'm listing a lot of gourmand notes, and it does veer a little bit towards the gourmand, I don't think of this as a typical gourmand at all. Because the way it wears feels much more like a chypre. It has that depth and that sensual quality and that seriousness that chypres tend to have.

I really love this one. I've worn this a bunch of times, and I think it's unisex. Although on my skin, the fruit comes out a little too much. It gets a little too sweet. So it's not something I put on all the time. But when other people wear it, I'm on board. Because I just love to smell this stuff. All the time. Highly recommended. 1969 from Istvald de Parfum.
