Luckyscent Videos: Penhaligons - Opus 1870

Opus 1870 by Penhaligons is one of my all-time favorite recommendations for men. It's a really clean, fresh, and sweet cedar, or at least the opening is quite sweet. Then it dries down to a very low-profile, clean wood. It's really versatile. I feel like this works on young men and older men. You can wear it to the office. You can wear it every day of the year in any climate. I mean, it's really easy to wear. But it's also really interesting.

I find cedar wood to be a very inviting and relaxing wood note. I have some other wood fragrances that I love to recommend to men, too, and women, to everyone. But I feel like those are a little deeper and richer. This one is just really, really pleasant and really easy to wear. It has moderate longevity, so you may have to reapply to take it into the evening. But I definitely think it's worth it.

What I love about it is the opening with the pepper and yuzu fading into the soft musk and woods in the base. This opening reminds me of one of my favorite smells as a child. I remember getting a little cedar box, a jewelry box, on a family vacation and riding in the backseat of the car, smelling my little cedar jewelry box all the way home from the Ozarks because I loved it so much. It's a really comforting wood.

Where sandalwood can be a little warm, creamy, nutty, cedar always feels cool and refreshing and relaxing. I find it to be very sexy. So if you're looking for that sort of approach for your fragrance, this works because it's inviting as opposed to overwhelming. If you're a guy that doesn't know what to try out, you want to try something that's not over-the-top risky but still very interesting, something that's wearable and very inviting, I think this would be a great option.
