Here's what other people are saying about Onthamara...
As someone who only casually explores perfumes, I was initially intimidated to give this one a go based on the notes list (I learned I do not quite appreciate oud from sampling others I'd ordered along with this one), the poetic reviews and evocataive description.I'd agree it's not for somebody seeking a "nice" perfume, but it turned out to be less scary than the other ouds I had tried which were presented more as daily wearables than an artistic experience.I think the camphor was strong at the beginning and faded somewhat by the end, roughly 16 hours of wear. The oud was always there and noticeably less smokey than others.Overall medicinal, bringing to mind a particular brand of antibacterial ointment. Powderyindolic after washing.

Dark, evocative, smoky and deep animalic Oriental fougere designed as a representation of a dark demon god. The bold perfume contains a central animalic note composed of fossilized amber, hyrax, castoreum and real deer musk. This is surrounded by a plethora of exotic notes like lovage root, black spruce, jatamansi, camphor, beeswax and a host of other dark aromatic notes. It is a kitchen sink but it works incredibly to create a seamless dark potion. This is truly the olfactory equivalent to excavating an ancient beast from a tomb. The masculine leaning scent has moderate to strong sillage and very good longevity. Prin Lomros knows how to push all boundaries and this is his finest hour. A modern masterpiece.

It smells forbidden and ancient. Not as in dusty, crumbling... this scent is compounded in complexity, a forced melding of wood, resin, root, char, and indistinguishable animalics. The dry down is a long process and held me in anticipation, but when it arrived, the scent was like the subtle bloom atop the layers of times past. I can't wait to own the full size.

Prin is a prolific producer who likes to push boundaries.. Onthamara tries to break a few. It's note list is quite long. I cannot distinguish all of them, but the whole is more than the sum of its parts. It shape shifts from being an Oud magus, to a floral in the drydown. It is long lasting and is unique among the many fragrances I have tried. It defeats my ability to describe it well. It is quite expensive and for anyone looking for a "nice" scent should not purchase this one. It is flagrant in its goal of challenging wearers. I enjoy wearing it at home and when I am around people who are open to a master flexing all his note muscles. Prin has many more approachable and fun scents. I feel blessed to own it.
