The Scoop

You could say Cuir Fétiche is a history lesson. The perfume industry did, after all, kick off in Grasse because the city's main activity was tanning: to counteract the stench of tanning products, fine leathers were treated with flowers, herbs and resins. Master perfumers were also glove-makers until the French Revolution, a fact reflected in the very name of the house founded by Jean Laporte. It is therefore to the past of his trade and the very identity of his house that Jean Paul Millet Lage, Laporte's disciple and successor, pays a tribute to with Cuir Fétiche.

This richly feminine leather, infused with a classic rose, jasmine and iris bouquet, exudes the aristocratic elegance of a lovely marquise pulling on her gloves on the way to the opera. You can practically feel the handfuls of flowers crushed into the leather to yield their noble essences. This is a scent from another time, full and lush, classically elegant in the best French tradition. But the leather note, so seldom used in feminine fragrances, gives it just enough chic toughness to make it impeccably modern.

Here's what other people are saying about Cuir Fetiche...
I love Chanel's Cuir de Russie and also Cuir Fetiche, but they're quite different. Where Cuir de Russie is haughty and reminscent of the leather car seat of a vintage Bentley (with that sexy touch of soap and civet too!) Cuir Fetiche is warmer, more 'come hither'. It's very pretty in opening notes, almost verging on powdery with a soft floral bouquet, lambskin leather and a golden tingly amber. The touch of salty animalic ambergris is subtle, but makes it best suited to Autumn, Winter or evening in my opinion. I think it leans slightly more towards feminine in the opening, but the dry down is natural, soft and unisex, with a very light touch of natural vanilla. Gorgeous perfume, exactly as I'd imagine new, scented gloves to smell.

This is a beautiful fragrance and on my must have list. My daughter has also fallen in love with it. The description on this page is very accurate.

This is the ultimate date-night perfume for a lady who does not want merely a kiss at the door at the end of the evening. This is the quintessential "come in and be prepared to worship me all night long" fragrance. Lots of rose, lots of leather . . . wear to smell devour-able. I wouldn't think this would be nice for very steamy weather--cooler weather wear, I think. Between 4 and 5 stars.

Cuir Fetiche is more floral than leather. I agree about the comparison with Cuir de Lancome, which costs far less than the MPG offering. Cuir Fetiche is a floral leather, but I prefer Parfum d'Empire's Cuir Ottoman. One must try with a sampling before purchasing.

Powdery sweet floral leather. Reminds me more of Cuir de Lancome than Cuir de Russie in the opening. And somehow it dries down to Apres L'Ondee. Very nice scent although not what I expected from the corset bottle. Pretty and tame.
