Dream Sequence by Marissa Zappas is a slightly more grown-up interpretation of her original scent, which was called Lilac Dream, which I absolutely loved. Dream Sequence, however, has taken over my heart. I absolutely love this perfume; it is so beautiful.

The inspiration comes from Oklahoma, the 1955 film of the musical, and this Dream Sequence where there's a tornado and there's lilacs and stems and soil kind of all shifting around in the ether. I totally understand that when I smell this because it has a lot of complexity and a lot of different notes that sort of hit at different times. What I really get from this is a journey, and I really think that is so exceptional.

I'm fine with a linear scent—I wear a lot of them. I like things that just sort of stay how they mostly start. This doesn't. This starts out kind of tangy and green. I get this little bit of tartness almost; I get this almost sheep feel at the beginning. It's really unique, and at first, you're like, where's the lilac? Then give it a couple of minutes, and it's almost like through this fog or this haze, this beautiful creamy lilac sort of emerges quietly through the din. It's just this gorgeous, really true-smelling lilac.

The dry down actually goes kind of soapy on me. I think it's the type of musk that she uses, which I love, and which I also get a lot in Annabelle's Birthday Cake, my other favorite. I think this is such an intricate and thoughtful scent. I don't find that it really shouts out loud, which I don't want it to. I love that it sort of stays close and wears softly and elegantly, but it's just so interesting and so beautiful. I think this is a work of art. Try it out.
