Today I get to talk about the newest release from Imaginary Authors. It's called Sundrunk. And Imaginary Authors, if you haven't explored this line, you really should. It's one of our favorite niche houses. It was created in 2010 by Josh Meyer. He's out of Portland, Oregon, and he's really creative and brave and fun and playful. I feel like he approaches perfume with great creativity and a little bit of whimsy, which I feel like sometimes perfume can be very serious. And he always has a story behind each scent. He says that for him, perfume is a narrative art form. And each story is the story of an imaginary author.
So in this case, the author's name is Amy Obispo. And on the back of the box, there's a little quote from her writing. It says, "woozy and warm from the sun, we shared an orange pop and watched the surfer's last lines of the day."
The notes in the fragrance — let me show you what it looks like: the notes are neroli, orange zest, rhubarb, honeysuckle, rose water, and first kiss. So it's a summery, beachy scent without falling into any of the beachy tropes. It's not coconut or pina colada. And I love those. I love those. But this is a fresh approach to it. And when I spray it, I really do get the scents, yeah, the scents of an orange popsicle. And there's a beautiful, subtle green woodiness underneath. And I feel like that would probably be the rhubarb working to kind of counter the sweetness of the orange.
The orange is a little sugared. And I think that's from the rose water, just a soft, sweet floral component that doesn't take over the scent. It just blends it into a soft yet fresh note. And I feel like as this dries down on my skin, it fades to the darker green of the rhubarb.
