Ben Gorham took a most unusal path to the world of perfume. Born in Sweden to a Canadian father and Indian mother, he grew up playing high-level competitive basketball. After several years in the European professional leagues, he left the sport to enroll in art school, with the goal of becoming a painter. A chance encounter with perfumer Pierre Wulf convinced him that scent would be an even better outlet for his creative streak, and shortly thereafter he enlisted perfumers Olivia Giacobetti and Jerome Epinette to help him make his vision a reality. The result has been Byredo, an ever-growing international sensation, but also a personal labor of love for Gorham, who views his fragrances as emotional manifestations of important memories.
