Bright Red

Only 0.03 per cent of the world’s diamonds are naturally red, owing to a specific light refraction, and 90% of these red diamonds come from the Argyle Diamond mine in Australia. Bright Red is a scent inspired by one tiny 0.3 gram Australian red diamond that sold at auction for over $2 million. In our opinion, the link here is that the scent, like diamond in question, packs a ton of color and nuance into a tight space. A glance at the notes list might tell you to expect a woody rose scent. But that doesn’t even begin to cover the astounding complexity of this little stunner.

Bright Red smells like the color red, but like a red diamond, seems to encompass every single shade of red in existence. First we start with the dark, winey red of roses springing free of thorny undergrowth, which lends an almost sinister tone to the topnotes. Gradually, the rose brightens to a lacquered cherry red, a touch of vetiver or geranium shining the flower’s pitch so that it smells metallic and bloody. In its final incarnation, a whiskeyish combination of earthy patchouli and golden resin turns the color dial from cherry to a burnished rusty-orange that glows with fierce warmth. We simply love the headstrong temperament of this pulp fiction rose. Though flanked on all sides by the earthiness of frankincense, vetiver, and patchouli, it persists in radiating as brightly as a small red flame.
