Just as Mozart and Beethoven conjured up infinite variations on the melodies that so obsessively occupied their thoughts, Ernest Daltroff, the inimitable perfume maestro, at the turn of the century, created two olfactory variations on a major theme: the Narcissus.
Mesmerizing and mysterious in 1911 in Narcisse Noir, in 1922 it was interpreted on a far more sober note. The stripped-bare structure of three classic florals, jasmine, orange blossom and rose, let the fragrance an extraordinary purity that conveyed the very essence of its name.
