Was it fate or serendipity? When Isabelle Doyen and Camille Goutal set out to compose a scented tribute to the Gardens of the Hesperides – the goddess Hera’s mythical orchard – they invited a friend over to the lab to smell their work in progress. He told them it reminded him of a wonderful garden near Rome, the Giardino di Ninfa. But it was some time before Isabelle and Camille could visit it, and by then they’d practically finished the formula...
Miraculously, when they got there, they discovered that the garden they’d dreamed up was waiting for them, with its citrus orchard, lavender borders on the paths and fig trees everywhere. So they named the scent Ninfeo Mio, after the river that runs through the grounds.
And Ninfeo Mio is truly a walk through a magical Italian garden. The bitter, almost raspy lemon top note veers into green with galbanum and fig leaf; the rounded milkiness of the fig fruit softens the blend until the lemon feels almost candied, crispy with crystallized sugar. Lavender, here, is treated as an aromatic note rather than as a star player, bolstered with absolute of lentisque, the resin of the Mediterranean mastic tree, whose combustible fumes have pine, lemon and hay facets. As the scent dries down, it settles into lemon wood wrapped in powdery musk.
Ninfeo Mio’s delicately shimmering aromatic blend truly brings something new to Annick Goutal’s range of hesperidic eaux de toilette. Wear it now, and fast-forward to summer...
