This is citrus gone over to the dark side. The bitter notes of lemon and citron, intensified by the camphoraceous, piney facets of cypress, give way to the deep purple duet of orris and violet. But there’s nothing powdery and nostalgic about this interlude: the orris is stately, the violet a mere touch of sweetness. Clad in smooth leather, bathed in the warm honeyed fumes of tobacco leaves, Explorer forges on its path towards the secret realm of oud, and settles in its pitch-black, medicinal aroma. He’ll never make it back to the Royal Geographical Society to report his findings. Neither will you.
