Rose Oud
Eau de Parfum
by By Kilian

The Scoop
A strikingly lovely rose made all the more enticing by a drop of darkness. In the opening the rose is a delicate bud with a bit of green, but on the skin it opens up like a fine wine – rich and luscious with a deep, plummy sweetness. The oud is definitely present, but it doesn’t feel like a separate entity. It’s as if the rose has been infused with oud – its stem has been placed in the oil and it has translated the mysterious stuff through its petals, transforming itself into a rose of unusual moodiness and intrigue. The senses are teased with veils of smoke, traces of leather, hints of wood – passing shadows that make the luminous bloom glow more intensely by contrast. Created by the very talented Calice Becker, this is lush, feminine and exquisitely beautiful.

I have to agree with the giver of life from Albert Lea ( howdy neighbor )...this, at least on me becomes very cheap rosey cologne. I got samples of pure, rose, and incense oud, so here's hopin' for a small miracle from one of the others. This one however...nope, not for me.

First 10 minutes: Opens with a furniture polish smell, followed by cinnamon and Turtle Wax car polish. Then it morphs into a rubber-like balloon smell still with some lingering cinnamon mixed with Lemon Pledge furniture polish. And it sort of stays there for a while. No rose, no oud until 30 minutes later and it morphs into a smooth, delectable treat. If the opening doesn't work for you, patience has its rewards with this one if you've got the chemistry for it! I won't be buying the full bottle, but very worthwhile to experience.

The only word for this scent is intoxicating. I have always been enamoured of the scent of deep red roses and this smells like standing in the center of a rose garden at twilight when they are all in full bloom. Dark, rich, heady -- and I have been wearing it for nearly 10 hours now and the scent is as fresh-smelling as if I had just put it on. Intoxicatingly complex and rich. I am getting a bottle as soon as I can!

When I first tried this it didn't stand out from all the other samples and I thought it quickly disappeared. I tried it by itself this time and am so glad I did! Although it is not a strong scent, it is still here more than an hour later and shows no sign of disappearing anytime soon. The overall impression is of rose pastilles, really good ones. Like the complex taste of the pastilles, this scent has depth. I also was pretty happy about the rose not having that bug-spray element that plagues many of them, at least on my skin. I'll be happy to go out and grab a bottle of this, just as soon as I win the lotto. Love it!

Vixen! Absolute sex on femme. Sweetness to the rose, and definite leather/wood finish. Love!

I'll admit that I'm not a huge fan of rose scents, although I'm always on the hunt for that elusive rose scent I'll love and wear forever. My issue is that with most if not every rose scent I've tried, the rose element reminds me of the cheap, drug store rose scented air fresheners that my grandma used. It would be nice to find a rose scent that actually smelled like a real rose and not a .99 cent bottle of, "Ick." Sadly, upon first applying Rose Oud that was the first whiff I got...grandma's cheap room spray. To it's credit it quickly dried down to something more respectable, something that seemed to promise to turn into something amazing actually...but instead of giving me amazing it just disappeared. Literally. I reapplied and got the same result the second time. Too rosey, not enough oudy and no legs. Certainly not worth the $.

OMG! This is it, folks! If you want a subtle killer scent that lasts for hours and even lingers past a shower, this is the real McCoy for you! I realize it is belaboringly expensive, but good things do not come cheap. Plan for purchase might include a romantic evening where you ask your beloved to smell your wrist or neck and then hand him/her a bill for the bottle!!! Go for it!!

This scent is absolutely decadent and wears well on my skin. It is sexy without being overpowering and I will definitely be saving up for this one.

If you want a *big oud* this is not the one. This opens with a moderate rose on me...too much rose actually. I am not a lover of big rose scents, however, the dry down on this is lovely. Adore the Kilian line....the oud in this one is not medicinal, and nothing like a Montale oud. Adore the Kilian Pure Oud..very, very nice:)

"Fruity rose" is the right descriptor for this one. It smells like an odd mixture of shampoo and bubblegum and the oud doesn't even peek out until well after the day is done. Not very exceptional at all. There are much better rose oud combinations out there by the likes of Montale, Amouage, C&S and Juliette Has a Gun. For the premium By Kilian charges they should be striving to be better, not mediocre.

I thought this was really lovely, and I'm not normally a rose fan. The rose was soft and a bit fruity, not sour like most roses are on me, and it lasted all day. Definitely bottleworthy.
