L'Antimatiere
Eau de Toilette
by LesNez

The Scoop
A “perfumer’s perfume”, L’Antimatiere is elusive, intriguing and surprisingly sensual. It is the scent of “invisible ink that leaves a trace, foreseen rather than felt, persistent yet whispered”, of “creased bed linen wandering along your curves”. This is a fragrance-enigma, ever-changing and indefinable, it is hard to decode. Sometimes it smells clean and fresh, like the whitest of white musks, a true skin scent. Sometimes it opens up on a wearer’s skin like a sultry, enveloping blend of amber and animalic musk. Tantalizing and completely unique.

I don't get this. When I first opened it up I thought I didn't smell anything and thought that I was sent a dud bottle, but it eventually opened up into a very mangey, medicinal scent. Horrible.

I love this. It's an unusual, but surprisingly sensual combination of ambergris, musk and maybe sandalwood? I actually find it rather strong, so I must not be anosmic to any of the ingredients. Very interesting fragrance. Worth of try if you want something a little different.

This smells EXACTLY like my dog when she comes back from the groomer. If they didnt spray something similar on my dog then my review probably wouldnt be so bad. It's not a bad smell, its just that powdery smell, like scented toilet paper. It smells high quality and lasted forever-even after I scrubbed twice, that's why i gave it 2 stars!

Ugh, I totally agree with the observation below about the "dustiness" of this scent! Smells strange and musty.

A fabulous stealth scent! YOU might not detect the fragrance, but other people can and have no idea why they love your presence. It's so very subtle and ethereal, a real classic.

Not for me at all. Unlike previous posters, I found this too long-lasting. Sweet and somewhat dusty with, again as previously mentioned, a strange mineral tinge. There's nothing special about this fragrance to my mind - it's marketed well but it's ultimately empty. Least favourite of the line, by far.

"L'Antimatiere" is a very odd creature; it's like the void surrounding a shape shifting flame, full of emotion and feeling, yet indefinable in tangible presence. At first, I had little impression of it as anything but a faint, watery wash. I hesitated to investigate deeper--after all, who wants to feel like a fool, as if they'd been had by clever marketing? After revisiting it time and again, however, I've found it to be almost magical in evoking sensation and tenderness. It's auric and diffusive, like the warmth of life and strangeness of non-life, swirling into an eternal conundrum. This is the scent of wistfulness, of life gone by. If I've been had, than it's no more than I've been by something as indiscernable as air or subliminal persuasion of pheremones. I can't forget it--can't deny it's floating beauty that captures the feeling (as I've posted on Basenotes) evoked by heated stone in the midsummer's sun, the indiscernible headspace of oceanic air or the general feeling of observing stars at night. This is the essence of star, big bang, salt and mineral. I buy scent for how it makes me feel, how it inspires reflection and promotes participation in life. The LesNez crew may know something I don't know and will count their money with a superior smile; I'd like to think this is more about the mysterious nature of scent recognition and its intimate connection to our respective worlds. Test this in sample form first, though---I suspect many will be dissapointed and feel a bit cheated by the exclusion of top notes.

a child's incontinence, then breast milk then flannel sheets. very odd, not what I was expecting at all. I can understand how some people would find this scent very enjoyable but not my personality at all.

Actually my husband said "Your perfume stinks, what is it? It's rather strong and not pleasant", 2 hours after I gave it another try on my wrists.... Got to throw away the sample.

Nothing sensual in this. More like nothingness from the beginning to the end. My husband described it as the dentist's smell when I put it on, and I couldn't agree with him more. It's really clinic-ish smell, until it gets similar to someone's sweat, yuk!

It makes me smell like I want to feel. Free and floating, a scent for a thriving soul, even when life makes you feel like your wings have been clipped, this gives you strength and reminds you how it feels to soar.

i dont know who (or what) has "skin" that resembles this, but i practically began bleeding from the nose upon opening the vial (more like vile).the sharpest, most mind numbing..the olifact = to a metal door being slammed in my face, no to slam it would take passion, this is completly without any. think tin man after a lobotomy.goes into my sample round file... better yet, ill bury it and pray i forget...

If the concept of paying 85+ USD for a bottle of perfume and smelling like nothing appeals to you..then buy it. The scent has an interesting concept...it doesn't contain any topnotes so you aren't suppose to smell anything for the first hour or so...then poof..a scent should appear out of nowhere..thought on my skin I get nothing and by judging by some of the other reviews....I'm not the only one. I even sprayed numerous times and all I got after a couple of hours was a very faint cool musk smell. Think a really watered down D&G By Man.

The marketing description of this fragrance is spot on - it went on my skin without any scent and then about five minutes later became a soft musk. I'm torn about whether I like it enough to purchase it - its kind of an enigma scent, more intriguing than great smelling, but it grew on me. My husband said it smelled like soap, but I thought it smelled like a very soft musk. It reminds me of a vintage musk, and goes on like the dry down has already happened. What you are left with is the soft essence, but one that lasts. It would be a good fragrance for women who are sensitive to most smells or don't like to wear a strong perfume.

Most of my perfumes are spicy and powerful (CdG White, Frapin 1270, Christopher Brosius Pipe Tobacco), and it surprised me to like this one enough to buy it. It's a welcome departure from my usual aesthetic, though - soft and airy, never overwhelming the nose, always making you want to sniff it deeper. Your soul is always leaning toward the scent, never quite catching it firmly enough to hold it.

Based on my first try of the sample - started out a little like a fresh roneo (for those old enough to remember what that smells like...) - then became an amazingly clean, soft, warmth, right next to the skin. I applied it 6 hours ago, it's still there, and still interesting. Introverted and quietly confident. Lovely. It's a possible purchase (I already have Let Me Play the Lion!)

I agree with the previous review. I smelled pretty much nothing when I sampled it. When I decided to empty the entire vial on myself,I got a whiff of something clean that lasted a few seconds, but then was gone. I wear fragrance because I want to smell it, and want others to smell it on me. To wear this one is...pointless.

Once I figured out this was French for Anti-Matter, I got it. Nothing on me. I could dab Vodka and get more fragrance. Alocohol when I put it on, then. . . .nada. Some people get a light musk bottom note in about half an hour, but not me. Absolutely nothing. And since I'm a fragrance lover who wants to inhale the first waft out of the bottle, then enjoy all the notes, top to heart, this one isn't for me. But you might experience that mysterious bottom note.
