Acqua di Sale
Eau de Parfum
by Profumum

The Scoop
The soothing thunder of waves crashing against the shore, the tang of briny air, salt and sand and shells— it's all here in the most realistic ocean scent we have ever encountered. You can almost hear the gulls and feel the cool mist on your face. This is a not a vague watery floral or a beachy blast of tanning lotion— this is the ocean itself. Soft woods keep Aqua di Sale from ever becoming harsh or stridently ozonic and there is an undercurrent of extremely subtle sweetness. Instead of a beach teeming with sun bronzed bodies and ice cream vendors, picture a wild, unpopulated stretch of coastline where you can feel the power of the sea and the serenity of being far from the madding crowd.
Acqua di Sale Notes
aroma of salt on the skin, myrtle, cedarwood, marine algae

Oh, and my skin usually eats perfume-strangely enough, in light of some other reviews, this one and the afore-mentioned Fraaagola Saalaaata last forever on me.

One of the few fragrances I can stand on me when it's 100F and the humidity is in the 90s. The other is Hilde Soliani Fraaagola Saalaaata. It has to be the salt, very necessary when you're sweating your butt off. Plus this one smells just like the Gulf Of Mexico where I live, minus the shrimp of course (I love shrimp, just not as a perfume!) One of my "go-to" fragrances in summer heat.

The sea scent surrounds a man like a woman that exudes mystery. Excellent scent!

My daughter ordered this sample and didn't like it so I decided to try it. On me, it's a scrubber. I have a light hand with perfumes and could not get it off. A close friend said it made him think of a too long day at the beach when you have sand in your bathing suit, are feeling "stale", and want to take a long shower.

A very interesting, evocative fragrance. An opening tangy lime/citrus has its tangy-sweet qualities quickly modulated by an aromatic note... Some might read this as a "Noxzema" note. A nutty quality whispers and joins the overall cool wild mood. A procession of spices emerge: cardamom, sage, black pepper, clove, bay laurel... but they always retain a cool, distant "faraway" quality. Ultimately, a discreetly powdery pillow remains, like an expensive men's talc. Unisex, but leans possibly towards the masculine. On the right guy-- the over-30 man who completely eschews sweet or obvious scents--- this is going to be swoonworthy.

This was such a disappointment. I adore salty perfumes, particularly salty aquatics, and the reviews here (standing on the dock on a windy day? salt on skin on a hot day? evokes a day at the beach?) made it sound like it was made for me. Sadly, my ultra-picky skin chemistry strikes again. This smells like sickly sweet baby powder on me, with just the faintest hint of salt if I close my eyes and concentrate. I'm not a fan of powder scents, so I guess I won't be buying a bottle after all.

Something more about Aqua di Sale, do not think it will smell nice during a hot mediterranean summer, cause it loses all it's deapth... At least that's what happened to me. It smells nice again after autumn really came back....

Proud of this Italian masterpiece. Simply perfect.

It seems that this is not a perfume but an artwork. The way it expands on the skin, its culmination point and aftermath, all of it makes me feel like being in antother world. In a way it's comforting, cause it carries you away..... Though my husband complains it's too strong and penetrant. It's strange that some of the previous comments mentioned it's light, cause actually one puff it's too much. I decided to use it without spraying but controlling the quantity I use by pouring a tiny bit on my wrists or under the ears. Then soon it turns to a sweet a bit powdery lovely scent. It's one of the most intriguing perfumes I have ever experienced. I would recommend it to the ones who like peculiar and excentric scents. For sure it's not a perfume for smelling "nice" or "sexy"

I get the Noxeme cold cream someone suggested earlier but also salty air and suntan lotion that has been on the body all day- seemingly unpleasant but not. Although I am not in love with it I do find it mildly compelling. Interesting to smell on my wrists but I would not want to douse myself in it for others to smell. Most definitely a true marine scent more than most. Worth a sample. Intriguing.

This smells very much like sea air to me. The air when standing out on deck on a windy day. It also manages this without the often off-putting sharp and astringent note I dislike in so many marine fragrances. This lasts well and is very subtly and well done. Recommended.

Secretions Magnifiques meets driftwood meets sickly sweet candy. No thanks, but if you liked Preparation Parfumee you might possibly appreciate it.

"An Asian medicinal cabinet on the shore of the tropics" Very Balearic., all around good scent. This smells like a wilder version of Mr. Hulot's Holiday. If you have the money to blow, by all means.

Fecund is a wonderful word for this - there's something almost otherworldly about it - at first note, not sure I loved it, but am sniffing my wrist compulsively. Not a coppertone-y faux scent, it is truly a hot salty sweaty appealing smell. DC is 95 degrees today, and this smells perfect now

This is a gorgeous fragrance, I am totally in love with it. It reminds me of surfing with my mom when I was a kid. If you're looking for a Coppertone/coconut/Hawaii kind of thing this is NOT for you. It is shockingly expensive, and doesn't last as long as I would like, but every great love has to have a few flaws.

Opens lemony, then quickly arrives at smelling just like Acqua di Giò. This smells much more like marine perfume than anything truly marine.

... if I was slathered in original coppertone and fell asleep on top of my plastic air mattress at the beach , took a quick dip in the ocean and sun baked myself dry , I would smell like Acqua di Sale .

This smells like Noxema cold cream. However there is something about it that keeps making me sniff my wrist over and over - something creamily intriguing. I won't be buying a bottle, but I am saving my sample because I am thinking there will have to be a day when I will want to smell like Noxema - just not sure when that will be!

The first true marine scent I have found. No coconut, no sun tan oil, nothing sweet or artificial. One whiff of my wrist and I am floating on my back in the Gulf, sun beating down, salt on my skin, seaweed twining around my ankle. It has a depth to it that surprised me - almost fecund quality. And amazing staying power - it lasted through a shower.

This is amazing stuff. It does smell like the ocean. I feel like I could lick the sea salt off my skin. The scent is clean without being soapy or detergent-y. I find it comforting.

Medicinal - maybe the algae, I'm not sure. Not what I would call a Perfume, and certainly not something I would purchase at any price much less mega bucks.

This perfume lasts forever on me and my friend and I found it very unusual and quite strong. Irresistable also. How could I have paid over 200$ for a bottle otherwise?!

Well, after about twenty minutes, this scent is undetectable. Too bad, cause it was pleasant, but dry skin has done it this fragrance. Reccomended for oily skins, and those who like very light fragrances.

Very ordinary, bog-standard marine accord based on the aromachemical helional. Wonderful description by luckyscent though.

This fragrance seems to keep morphing from one salty smell to another: first it's like wind over seaweed, then it's like Play-Doh, then like a beach in Maine. Interesting, but not necessarily beautiful.

This is really light and lovely, but it does not smell like the ocean. It's airy and angelic almost, overall pretty perfume, but it's really expensive.
