Eau d’Epices
Eau de Parfum
by Tauer Perfumes

The Scoop
Cool and dry and full of unexpected corners. Imagine ducking into a mysterious antique shop in an unfamiliar city on a whim and exploring a fascinating mix of steamer trunks and silk tapestries and treasures of unknown origin. We find a wooden cabinet with small drawers filed with spices – cinnamon and cardamom, coriander and clove. We smell not just the intoxicating blend of spices, but the way the scent of spice has permeated the wood over time and the way the smell of the wood and the spice has become intertwined with the scent of the shop itself. In the swirl of wood, spice and incense, we get the occasional whiff of medicinal remedies and floral sachets tucked into pockets and suitcases. A dark and insinuating incarnation of orange blossom makes its presence known -- not the airy orange blossom of brides, but a surprisingly sensuous, dirty orange blossom, blended with jasmine and earthy orris root. The various elements play like memories – surging forward and drifting back in an unpredictable waltz – over a reassuring base of vetiver, tonka, ambergris and a woody cistus resin. An evocative and complicated fragrance that is also unexpectedly soothing.

I never though I would regard one of Andy Tauer's perfumes as a scrubber, but this is it. The smell of ammonia right from the top made me burn my nose if I put it anywhere near my wrist. I hoped it would dissipate, but after an hour it hadn't, I couldn't detect any spices, and I had to get it off me. Very sad; I don't know where his fine mind was at when he invented this one. Definitely do not buy blind.

I ordered a sample of this fragrance out of curiosity. Although I can see why the perfume has good reviews it really doesn't suit me as it's far too sweet.

Oh... no! Received a sample of this. I wanted to love it, but it's appalling on me. These notes ought to work for me. But EdE one screams "URINAL CAKE IN HARD CANDY COATING." The spices are smothered in treacle. Interestingly, it reminds me of the classic L'Heure Bleu by Guerlain, another fragrance I can't stomach in the least as my nose can only discern sweet-n-sour rot over dirty knickers. Each to his own, I guess.

Wasn't so keen on this, I must say. There's a odd, buttery-smelling base that is also (I think) in Le Maroc pour Elle and Carillon pour un Ange, and it's just not to my taste. Other than that, an interesting attempt to do a non-woody, strangely 'liquid' smelling spice.

I love Tauer perfumes and was anxious to try this one. Like all of Andy's creations, it is complex, wonderful and well crafted. That said, this scent as too heavy in the floral notes for me - I would happily snuggle up to a woman wearing it. The orange flower, leaning towards rose or violet, predominates, with a warm touch of spice. Lasts long, the dry down is wonderful.

One thing I dislike is when people have negative comments and chicken out and DO NOT PUT THEIR NAMES! Really, this is a classy place, so let's class up a bit. Having said that, please try this fragrance. It is wonderful and a perfect compliment to its sister fragrance in the wonderful orange bottle.

Normally, I tend to like any and all fragrances - by whoever. But what IS that initial smell from Eau d'Epices. Dear Andy, I mean no offense, really, but smelling like a freshly cleaned mall bathroom is just so not cool. OK, it is a well made spray cleanser, so I'll give it a three.

I expected a big beautiful spice market with a cooling touch of iris. Instead I get flat. This fragrance does not rise like his other fragrances it sits on the skin and does nothing. The ingredients sound so promising and are exactly what I look for in perfumes but with this perfume it's as if they have been heavily watered down. I just can't understand it I have Chypre Rose, L'Air du Desert Marocain, Incense Rose and Incense Extreme, all these have lift and vibrancy Eau d'Epices does not. It is nothing like his other perfumes which I love. Very disappointed. Get a sample first before you buy.
