Aqaba
Eau de Parfum
by Aqaba

The Scoop
"Brighter than spiced wine
Sweeter than midnight
More secret than the rose"

- Michael Hornyansky "The Queen of Sheba"

Aqaba- a jeweled city on an ancient caravan route, through which camels laden with luxurious cargoes of incense, gold and gemstones passed as the Queen of Sheba traveled to meet King Solomon. An encounter that sparked a legendary passion. This tantalizing fragrance inspired by the charismatic queen uses ingredients from the traditional art of Arabian perfumery. It opens with a deep, powerful rose blended with warm spices and precious frankincense. It mellows into a beguiling spicy sweetness with amazing lasting power. Thrillingly seductive we think it would have suited the queen perfectly.
Aqaba Notes
Eqyptian jasmine, Bulgarian rose, cinnamon, clove, cardamom, damask rose, frankincense, peach, tea leaves, white cedarwood, oak moss

I'm the one that said "Bleh..." in the comment immediately below. I want to add that I'm a big fan of "womanly" oriental perfumes, heady roses, resinous woods, spices, and all that good stuff, so I was really expecting I would like Aqaba. I think it was the rotten fruit accord (wine?) that disagreed with me. Try before you buy.

Bleh, I hate it. Too sweet and fruity, not the kind of scent I imagine Queen Sheba would have worn. It smells cheap and cloying...a total disappointment.

Can't believe some of the comments here...some females will always be "girls" and some will be "women"....it's a state of mind. This is heady stuff, but subtle-for the "women" type..I don't think it's too sweet or too "oriental". It does go on strong, but mellows within a few minutes to pure bliss. I can't say it smells like any exsisting perfume on the market. The drydown lasts, and is to die for. I'll need to spring for a bottle-my SO, who "prefers" freshly washed, complimented me twice on this, which is a first for him, as did the male employee at the supermarket. So ladies, it does work on men. It's not girly or too floral...just mysterious....you just have to have the right attitude and body chemistry to wear it. No one note stands out, and it's difficult to pin down exactly what it's made of. At least test it....but those that want to smell lighty floral and innocent, pass, This is for a woman who knows she's a woman, and wants to practice her skills...:)

Rose, honey, cinnamon and the slightest curl of incense rise above the sleazy, smoky intensity of similar mixes and come together to form sheer olfactory bliss. Warm, subtle, sweet perfection. In a bottle.

Aqaba is sweet, spicy and heady. I can wear gourmand fragrances, but this is not gourmand; it's an overly sweet floral, a type of scent that I absolutely hate. Nauseating and old-styled for me.

Oh my this is lovely. Definitely not for the unsophisticated, I agree. There is something about it that is reminiscent of Opium, as a previous poster commented, but it's not a smell-alike at all. If you liked the original Opium back in the '80s, you should try this. It won't cudgel you in the head like those '80s fragrances. It will converse where they shouted. I'd love to pull out a sweater from my drawer and have it smell faintly of this scent on a cold winter day. Aqaba is full of warmth and mystery and truly a world away from the fresh Colorado mountain air.

This fragrance is just too much! As it being for a so called grown up woman trying to attract men I think not. I've tested light and clean and dark and heavy on men. I can tell you light and clean is always the winner with men 100% of the time. Men don't like perfume that is so strong they can taste it.

I wasn't sure what to expect from this really, but all the strong reviews both on here and Luckyscent got the better of me and so I ordered a sample. I love it! Fot the first 10 minutes or so it smelled of soap. Really strong overpowering, soap! my husband also said the same thing and he didn't like it. Damn! I thought it was a scrubber. Im so glad I gave it time, drydown revealed a beautiful luminous but still very substantial fruity floral spice melange! Now I can't stop sniffing myself! Sillage is fantastic by the way. I concur with the other reviewers' warnings about applying this with care - I only used two tiny dabs from my sample and the smell is all around me. But having said that I love it - it's just other sensitive people who might find it too much. I can perhaps see why ppl compare this to Opium and Coco in the opening it has that same very strong 'perfumey' thing going on (the soapy stage i hated) but as it develops it has a personality of it's own. (I also own Opium and they don't smell anything alike). For me the peach is the star here, almost like a honeyed peach with a touch of rose and touch of tea, That's my drydown, I dont get the spices, which I normally love but Im not upset because what I do get is beautiful. A very glamorous full on fragrance, yes fit for a queen.

So yummy. I was leery at first - it smelled so "old lady" on me and I thought I would despise it. However the dry down is wonderfully exotic. Definitely a scent from the Middle East. Its heavy and sweet with a hint of spice and wood. Its a strong, bold scent that calls the room to attention.

I own this and love it. spicy and sexy. it's exotic and lasts all day for me. I don't pick out the individual notes but in general it's very oriental and spicy. Especially nice for fall/winter, but I will wear it in in spring/summer too.

Aqaba is rich, exotic, utterly gorgeous. It's glamorous, global, and classic. This is spicy at first, with lots of cinnamon, and mellow clove. The drydown is warm and incensy, and the whole fragrance feels confident and passionate. I'd love to visit the settings the fragrance evokes...someday I will. For now, I wear Aqaba to bring on the dreams. Exquisite.

Heady rose, clove, cedar, jasmine and peach pit with a touch of sweet vanilla. Like a cedar chest packed with gowns, dried corsages and the clove cigarette left in a clutch hand bag all worn by a sophisticated dark eyed beauty. Not for everyone, it is sophisticated, but not subtle.

This fragrance opened up with a strong, spicy scent on me, almost, but not quite, overpowering. The dry down, however, is worth every second of the wait - warm, sexy, a bit sweet, with true depth and complexity. I can never stop sniffing my wrist when I have this one on! It is strong, and has tremendous lasting power, so you would have to be cautious wearing this in some environments, and it certainly is not particulary suited to my summer weather, but it is a lovely fragrance on a cold and blustery day!

This is beautiful and smells exactly like an oil I purchased many years ago at an oriental bazaar. I still have it and was hoping one day to find something resembling it; well, I just did! Spicy, warm, mmm.

I love rich, spicy scents, but this perfume wasn't that. It was inoffensive but not particularly interesting to me. Worth trying a sample, it may float your boat, but there are richer scents out there.

I wish I'd had the same impression of this as the fans of it. On me it was sweet with a wood base and unexceptional overall. Too bad - I love the concept.

Only wimps wear these clean soap fragrances. This one is for real women who want to lure real men. It's spicy, warm, and inviting for a woman who knows what she wants.

This perfume reminds me of my grandmother's house - and that's a good thing. Her home was immaculate, full of fresh flowers and a lingering scent of just-baked cookies. Add to that the aroma of mountain air and freshly turned earth through open windows in the springtime. Aqaba brought those memories rushing back to me the moment I put it on. Staying power is impressive. Top marks for originality and sheer beauty.

Lovely, strong, exotic, spiced rose with a supporting cast of other florals. Definitely a grown-up fragrance for a woman with presence and confidence. One I reach for often in the winter- although if used judiciously is wearable year 'round.

As the previous reviewers have said, this is a strong, spicy scent. The floral notes are rich and heady, not at all light/ethereal as in some fragrances. A perfume for "mature" women.

If you love light florals or fruity scents that teenage girls would wear to the mall, then this is not for you. This is a lovely, sexy bold fragrance for grown-up women! Love it.

Very sexy....very spicy..this really is different. It does have a antiquish quality to it, but not grandmother at all. If you like incense fragrances this is one that you should try. I am not saying headshop either more exoctic turkish coffee house.

Beware - this rides a fine line between spicy, sexy, and expensive antique-ish perfume.

Strong and dry. There's no sweetness, no temperance. I kept waiting for it to morph into something more feminine, I guess, and it just got spicyier. I would not call this masculine at all, but you would need to be very bold to wear this well. I keep imagining a dark Spanish or Arab woman wearing it. I can't pull it off, but I can appreciate it.

I looooove this. Spicy and sexy. It has a sweetness that I don't know quite how to describe - not particularly foody or fruity, but warm and rich. Gorgeous!
