Bois Farine
Eau de Toilette
by L’Artisan Parfumeur

The Scoop
Created by Jean-Claude Ellena, perfume composer of international fame, Bois Farine (Wood Flour) is the product of his encounter with a magic tree in the Reunion Islands. Here, in a forest known as the coloured wood forest, surrounded by evocatively named trees , red wood, yellow wood, iron wood and milk wood, he unexpectedly discovered the fragrant white tree - a rare and nowadays protected species, reputed to have magical powers. This tree is specific to Reunion Island and its red flower smells like flour. Bois Farine is a single and unique fragrance, a magical union between witch wood and flower powder… As rich and fresh as flour rain.
Bois Farine Notes
white cedar, gaiacwood and sandalwood, white iris, farine flower, fennel seed.

update since my prior review for this : i had to get a bottle of this , its too muh fuh'n good . despite the odd sounding accords like peanutbutter , flour , almonds , pencils (?) this is so fresh and i LOVE that quality . when most ppl think "fresh" theyd prol imagine citrus / aquatic / sporty which all = BORING ; this is none of that . that light dusting of flour is the base of this frag , on my chemistry anyway. its always present from initial app to hours later drydown where its soft and subtle but detectable and different. every single person that ive hugged since i bought this has wanted 2nd hugs and some i can feel smelling my neck and shirt. ive had em tell me i smell " great " and when i ask to elaborate they say its just so different they dont even kno how to describe it . and then they ask what is and the snob in me is like haaaaale no ( i cant be tellin all them hos my secrets lol ) , so i just say it was from sephora . bottom line : this is fresh but not sporty or citrusy or mainstream fresh, its warm but not spicy , its sweet but very much not gourmand sweet , its powdery but absolutely not in a stereotypical girl powdery way , its subtle but has a lot of presence . bois farine is up there in my top 5 frags ever list

To me, this smells only of cedar (a pretty nice version of it) and cumin. Cumin is not listed as a note, but there's no mistaking that sweatiness. It feels like a poor Sheldrake imitation to me.

upon application i too get the peanuty goodness ; its smooth and mildly sweet peanut buttery , a tiny bit sharp sweetness like almonds ,verrrry slightly powdery , and very light . like its not too rich and heavy . in about 15 mins that peanutyness recedes and on me its more almondy . i def smell the flour also and i think its that element that gives it the smoothness . its kinda like if u took a lump of dough , maybe like for russian teacakes , and gently dropped in flour and the finely milled flour dust flies upward . its that sorta dusting of flour feeling . one other thing : i also think this smells like a fresh box of pencils . i like this , idk if i love it but i keep smellin my wrist becos its a bit strange and interesting .

Its very woodsy. Light woods but woodys nonetheless. The perfume counter salesman thought of this when I said I liked dry/cool scents. I found this to be dry and WARM, but I get why people like it.

This is one of my favourite smells in the whole world. It reminds me of walking through Cathedral Grove, a redwood rain forest, on Vancouver Island while it is raining in the heat of the summer. Exotic, woody, and on my skin it dries down to a cedar, musky finish. My husband loves the smell of it on my neck.

Many people have complained about the "peanut butter" smell of this. I agree that it smells nutty, although to be precise, it smells more like Brazil nuts. Having said that, I didn't find that a reason to dislike the smell. It carries with it a strong woody smell as well, something like a more refined version of the Body Shop's sandalwood. It is never sharp, always rounded and soft, which makes it a somewhat feminine scent in my mind. To me, it's slightly gourmandise, but never so much as to be disconcerting because it always smells woody. I'm a fan.

bleach! smells great for 2 minutes and then it begins to smell like peanut butter and yeast in a strong and 'perfume-y' way.

Initially I liked this scent but after a few days wear it began to "wear" on me. It is strongly gourmand, with a almond butter/peanut butter finish. A friend said that it smelled like "Mr. Bubbles" brand bubbles with peanut butter on me. It may be fun to wear every once in a while as it's not entirely offensive but it's definitely overwhelming enough and excessively gourmand in a particularly peanut buttery niche to avoid wearing on a daily basis.

This smells like a freshly baked bread with a delicious, creamily powdery note. Absolutely gorgeous!

I can't even describe what this smells like, but something in it works almost like aromatherapy for me. When I'm stressed out, it really helps. It is also one of the few perfumes I can wear when I have a headache. You can't purchase this off anyone's description, because I don't think any one can really describe it. If you are curious, you should try a sample, because you'll probably describe it totally differently from someone else.

This is a fascinating scent, and I agree with the reviewer who likes it but doesn't wear it in public--it's just a little too odd. I don't get the peanut butter at all, but a very sweetish unbaked bread dough. In the drydown the cedar is very strong on me, and a bit too masculine.

I really wanted to like this. I kept trying it and trying it, but I just can't get past the peanut butter smell.

Incredibly different and unusual. It also took me a while to "get" it. I kept sniffing myself and couldn't decide if I wanted to smell like freshly baked bread. As a true gourmande, I fell in love and only wish it had more of a staying power! (that's why it loses a star)

This is what I feel about Bois Farine... I like it. It may go on the level of food-inspired scents, so the comfort level is kinda there. Now as for wearing it out in public, no. I don't think many people could "get it" on a first encounter. It took me a while to "get" Bois Farine. I wear it at home. The smell's personality does not speak out in obnoxious colors. Infact, the personality of the scent seems to be withdrawn.

Took me a while to like this one. The opening is a warm bread dough slathered in peanut butter. I'm not a fan of peanut smell as perfume, but the peanut smell blows away after about 15 minutes, leaving a more floral bread dough that I find interesting. Maybe not FBW, but certainly worth another sniff.

Just bought a bottle of this stuff, despite the fact that there's a period in the drydown that I'm not totally wild about. But I'm completely entranced by it for the first 15 minutes or so after I spray it on - smells exactly, uncannily like floury bread dough, which I love. Then it goes through a phase of bitter almonds, but smooths out later to a light sandalwood. I don't find it to be overly masculine - in fact, it's so utterly unique that I have a hard time associating it with anything at all.

I'm one of the few who love this one. I think it has more of a dry, nearly transparent quality. Creamy-dry sandalwood and peanuts. Sounds odd, but it works. Stays close to the skin. Some people smell wheat, dough, or flour in the mix. The dry-down is white musk -- frankly, that's the only part that I don't love.

Oh my god. I wanted to love this perfume, anticipated with so much glee-- fancy names and notes. Well.. what a shock. Smells too seedy. And by seedy, I mean that. Seeds. Toasted seeds. Very "boxy". I have no idea how else to describe!

I noticed the woods very much, especially the sandalwood, but not the floral notes at all. It didn't smell bad, just too strong and a bit masculine for my tastes.

really beautiful scent, very different. Its strong-but then not. Its powerful- not as airy as other scents.

Well! It's about time Luckyscent got this one. A truly original perfume, comforting without being cloying, dry without being cold. It is a masterpiece, it is hard to describe...there are almonds and powders and irises. TRY IT.
