Let Me Play the Lion
Eau de Toilette
by LesNez

The Scoop
The scent is an invitation to voyage; evocative of far away lands, “of dusty trails, of lightly sweetened ochre, of sun-weathered wood, of silence swept by mild breezes, of skies open like an endless azure cut, oozing signs of the coming storm.” The wood, the delicate incense, the soft spiciness create a blend that is as elegantly understated as it is exotic. Meant by LesNez to be more of a men’s scent, Let Me Plan the Lion, however, seems truly unisex and will be entirely wearable for women who adore woody fragrances.

This scent smells like burning wood and dry, hot desert sands. It dissipates fairly quickly and to even be able to smell it at all quite a bit has to be applied. I can imagine if you like the sharp smell of burning fragrant woods such as mesquite or pine you would probably like this. However, I don't. It's more of a environment scent than something I would want to wear.

I have been wearing this for over a year and i just suddenly realised this smells like my spice rack. A little of every kitchen herb with the smell of wood. I used to love this one at first but I grew tired. The lion is getting old and lazy, maybe a little anorexic? it's too dry and thin for me.

Let Me Play the Lion - a mountain lion in its habitat. Moving quickly through the high plains desert brush. Covering ground easily gliding through the chapparal, moving over the sage and dried pinon. The dry heat of sun baked desert air and the distant smoke of burning cedars.

LOVE IT. Despite the rather pretentious name, this is a gorgeous woody, tobacco-y smell that works beautifully on cold winter nights. One of the favourite scents I've tried in the past few years. Might have to buy a bottle...

The first whiff after application was of wet cigarettes. Seriously, I gagged. However by the time it dried (before I had time to rush to the sink to wash it off) it changed into a dusty antiqued cedar smell which was quite lovely actually. Still, I'm not sure I'd enjoy reeking like a wet ashtray even for a few brief moments. I love the other Les Nez scents, (L'Antimatiere smells ridiculously good to me, and I know it smells like nothing on others) so go figure.

As another commenter wrote, I am using my little sample most judiciously because I absolutely love this scent! I am a woman and would wear it all day if I had a full bottle. It reminds me of opening an old wood chest on a fall day. I smell wood, smoke, leather but all melded just beautifully into a luscious smell.

On my husband it smells of cedar and dust and rainclouds and smoke, and when I wear it the scent changes, it reminds me of the backstage of a theatre, the heat of lights, the wooden floors, dust and powder and spice, then again heats up on the skin it's even more enticing. A wonderful unisex scent that changes quite a bit depending on the wearer and, although I expect it isn't a scent all women would wear, I love it. I am saving the last drops of my sample vial for special days. It's wonderful and I wish I could afford a bottle, but on a writer's salary ($0) there isn't much that can be done; so, I'll cling to my last few drops.

This would be my dream fragrance if only it were a bit stronger, and if only the sillage were better. The aroma is a dry, dusty wood--quite a bit like a lumber yard or hardware store actually! For me it's a very nostalgic smell, and completely yummy. I think it would work on a woman or a man. But alas, I had to empty the entire sample onto myself to really detect it, and the ecstasy was short-lived. If it were stronger, this would definitely be bottle-worthy, but as is... Nope.

I like woody-incense type scents. My favourite is GdG Jaisalmer, but Let Me Play the Lion comes a close second. Jaissalmar is a sharper scent - a newly made wooden box full of fresh cardamom, cinnamom and pepper. Let Me Play tyhe Lion is a less distinct experience. It's older, dustier, softer, and sweeter - anise and sandalwood.

Lovely, subtle, shifting incense and wood. The beautiful thing about this fragrance is that it expresses the heart of what one thinks of as the incense experience - it is a changing, wafting, lightly smoky, nuanced, subtly perfumed fragrance, allowing the mind and emotions to drift, expand and meditate, as incense does. It isn't a cheerful, assertive or upfront scent, but rather zen-like. My favorite incense fragrance, a haunting Piscean delight.

First of all, it's a cedar based scent, so if you don't like cedar, then don't buy this...it's mostly composed of this. Although a very nice cedar it fails to be original....to tell you the truth it smells like a more sophisticated and naturally smelling version of Gucci Rush for Men (very synthetic)..another cedar based scent you probably can grab for WAY less.

Sexy. Intense but not overt. Warm woody and smokey. It smelled very much like Olivier Durbanos Rock Crystal but less 'churchy' and a bit more .....'fireplacey'.... Actually it makes me think of watching the sunset on a cool fall day with my boyfriend while sitting by a bonfire. Now how can something like that not be wonderrful?

I can't imagine this on a woman- to my nose it's definitely masculine, but to each their own. The first thing I notice is the smell of freshly cut cedar. There's something slightly sweet in there...possibly anise? and some incense . The overall effect is dry, woody, and spicy. The composition is light, yet tenacious (long lasting), and even sensual. Let Me Play The Lion embodies everything I look for in a fragrance- masculine, elegant, sexy, versatile, natural, different...with good sillage and longevity. Needless to say, I most definitely will be ordering a full bottle. I'm glad Luckyscent is now carrying it.

The best of the three. Dry. green, but wonderful and interesting. Subtle sillage, but lasted 10 hours. Not much development over time, but enough to keep my interest and my husband's too.
